Rated 2 out of 5 by Superman Good quality and looks good, but the function for what it is designed for is limited
This tensioner does not tension the chain enough for the power transfer needed for XC racing. It would be ok for someone just doing light recreational riding.

I don't know why this tensioner have only 1* and the others people don't like it... I bought this thing for my bike, a normal bike (a Viper Expert from 2011-2) but transformed in SS bike (with a SS kit from Fire Eye too). Fixed at the place of the rear mech, the tensioner push down the chain by a spring (like a rear mech). And it's possible to adjust the small whell to have the perfect line for the chain, so it's very usefull !
I use it in my city and sometimes in forest, never derailed in 2 months !

I own this tensioner now for 3 years and it has done plenty of commuting kms. It works very good if:
1 - you have correctly shortened your chain
2 - you must aline the sprocket with the chainring and the freewheel on the tensioner, otherwise the chain will fall - weird huh?! :D
3 - tight everything like a man and its a ride and forget.
Simple cheap and effective if you know how to set it up. 100% recommended.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Anonymous DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM
Terrible desingn - item is completely useless. Got the ano blue for a jump bike build and broke three chains trying to get SS drivetrain to keep from skipping.
Turns out it was the tensioner.
Sending back to CRC for a refund. CRC needs to drop this item immediately.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Anonymous Terrible!
Agree with all the other reviews... Its designed to push down which is just wrong. even if this was the right way the spring is too weak to be effective, I (eventually) managed to modify the evil thing to make it push upwards :-) but still needed to zip tie it to the chainstay to stand any chance of the chain staying on :-( Just terrible, would have been easier to make my own than try to get this to do its job.

What a piece of junk. it may look cool but it pushes the chain away from the sprocket instead so you loose wrap. Chain skips like crazy. It just does not work. Pity one cannot tell from the picture how it actually looks installed. If I knew it pushed the chain away from the sprocket I never would have bought it pretty disappointing for $50 item.

As the guy from Australia said this thing doesn't even does its job. This may look cool and work really well if you put it on an SS bike like from 80s or 90s where you're unable to adjust chain tension because of lack of horizontal dropout or something, but if you're looking for performance forget about these! Having this tensioner in nearly 2 days, the spring snapped. I know i'm not the smoothest rider and I used the tensioner on a dirt/trials bike, but still it's intended to keep your chain nice and tight even if landing from 6 feet. After disassembling the tensioner I found the spring laying loosely in the body, where one of the ends of the steel spring which was welded to aluminium body (nicely done) just came loose. Putting other spring (that i got from nowhere) didn't solve the problem either. The tensioning mechanism is not only too weak but it's too primitive and doesn't last really long, especially if you do trials or dirt jumps. I'll stick with my old broken derailleur that does much better job and is tougher than this good looking piece of junk. DON'T BUY!

This singlespeed tensioner is spring loaded so will offer some flex in line with your full suspension frame. Chain tensioners like this one which were designed for converting geared bikes with vertical dropouts to single speed setups were designed primarily for hardtails, and won't cope happily with more than 3-4mm of movement / chain growth. Yess produce a full suspension specific tensioner which would likely be a better option (http://labs.yesspro.com/products/et...)
