Finally, a high-top SPD compatible shoe. One problem with traditional shoes for clipless pedals is that they are made of hard, slippery plastic. Five Ten® has designed a sensitive shoe with excellent ankle support that is as comfortable for walking (and pushing) as it is tearing down the slope. The new Cyclone is designed for the demands of downhill single track. Bikers everywhere will embrace the comfortable leather upper and padded ankles—but it will shine on downhill single track.
Technology:Phantom:This rubber is completely non-marking. Without sacrificing high-friction and durability, this rubber ensures the cloak of invisibility. Shore A Durometer is 59-63.
Abrasion resistant action leather upper
Low Achilles cutout
Comfortable dense padded ankle support
Lace / VELCRO ® Brand closure
Non-marking Stealth® Phantom™ Grey outsole
Durable rubberized action

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous Excellent MTB Shoe
I think this is better than the Minaar/Hellcat models as this next generation five ten is lighter, even though it is a high top, yet it still retains the burly toe box and foot protection for rock impacts with the addition of ankle protection. I moved to this from the Hellcat because my ankles kept getting scraped on rocks/roots when I fell still clipped in.
The cut out in the rear part of the ankle cup stops chaffing when pedalling and Achilles pressure when riding down steeps. The strap helps to lock down your foot for pedalling efficiency but laces still need to be done up firmly to hold the foot down.
The tacky sole affords amazing grip.

These shoes are good but there is a few things you need to know.. They don't come with an instructions manual or note to tell you how to cut out the rubber to expose SPD screws, yes you actually need to cut the rubber, crazy hey! FYI. You have to cut off the inner square. I also find the screws not elevated enough, rubber gets in the way of a quick release, I had to elevate the bit some before it was safe.Otherwise they are pretty good, no were near as comfortable as my Mavic Alpine XL.

Je trouve ces chaussures très confortables, elles sont très pratiques pour pédaler et elles protègent bien la cheville.
Le seul défaut à mon gout est que la semelle est un peu grosse sinon très bonnes chaussure ! :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous Really pleased with these shoes, first time on clips yesterday and wanted a decent shoe to ease the transition. These did the job very well. My only gripe was that they rubbed my feet a little but I expect this with new shoes. I have the line king shoes also and these feel exactly the same only with a much stiffer sole for the cleat.
