FSA Orbit C-40 Tapered Integrated Headset

Tapered headsets are a combination of the other styles. Usually a tapered steerer tube will have a 1.1/8" or 1.5" lower diameter, and a 1.1/8" upper diameter. The headsets for these frames & forks can be any combination of traditional, internal, or integrated headsets. It is very important to accurately measure the inner diameter of the headtube top and bottom to narrow down the headset model needed. In some cases, Tapered headtubes can be used with a straight 1.1/8" steerer tube if a reducing headset race is available for that headset.

FSA Orbit Headset Specification:

  • Steerer Tube OD: 1.1/8" to 1.5" tapered
  • Upper head tube ID: 42mm
  • Lower head tube ID: 52mm
  • Fork crown seat OD: 39.8mm
  • Stack height: 8.9mm
  • Weight: 83.4g
  • Angular Contact Bearings

Answer:
This headset runs a Top bearing, IS42/28.6, and the Lower bearing is IS52/40. This is for a tapered steerer fork.

You can remove your existing headset and measure the internal diameter of your headtube. As long as it is 42mm upper and 52mm lower (which I believe the GTC is) this should fine.

Answer:
The FSA Orbit C-40 headset will have the following S.H.I.S number. Top bearing, IS42/28.6, the Lower bearing is IS52/40. This is for a tapered steerer fork and will fit your Rt-57 Planet-X with no issues.

You will not need any special tools to fit this headset as it placed into the headtube.

Hi there,

My bike is 2012 specialized Stumpjumper Elite 26er, the spec details on the specialized website are: "1-1/8 and 1-1/2" Threadless, Campy style upper with 1-1/2" lower, cartridge bearings".

I did search on the "crane creek fit finder" and turned out that the S.H.I.S are upper IS42/28.6 and lower IS52/40.

I wanna confirm with you is this headset fit into my bike?

Thanks and regards,

Answer:
Based on the information supplied, this headset is the ideal fitting for your frame when running a tapered steerer.

From information I can find online it doesn't appear that the lower bearing is also a campy bearing (45 x 45) and that a (45 x 36) is the correct bearing angle for the lower; as per this headset.

We are unfortunately not a Specialized dealer so cannot guarantee this 100%; for more information please contact the manufacturer.

C-40 1.5.... Same as C-40 No.42 ACB?

Before I order, I would just like to check this headset (noted as 1.5) is a suitable replacement for current headset (FSA C40 No.42 with 9mm stack height).

Known requirements:-

I have carbon tapered steerer.
Current bottom bearing is FSA TH-073 MR110 1.5" ACB 36x45 (160-6740)
Current top bearing is FSA TH-870 MR042 1 1/8" ACB 45x45 Campag (160-6480)
Upper head tube ID IS42mm
Lower head tube ID IS52mm

My current headset had no mention of 1.5 in the model designation.... It was simply called 'C40 No.42'. Please confirm this is a suitable replacement.

Thanks in advance

Answer:
The C40 (No.42) headsets all have a 1.5" lower bearing for use with a Tapered 1 1/8" - 1 1/2" steerer.

This headset will be a fine replacement.
