Rated 5 out of 5 by does what its suposed too easy to fit and does the job, will have to wait and see how long it lasts 15 March 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Good stuff. Maybe not for very hard riding Bought this headset (top-cap) some month ago to add this to newly bought frame. Design is good, matches frame (Ridley Blast 1020A). All details are fine, surfaces are smooth, bearings working fine as well (good to have closed bearings btw, I got a bit tired with old open ones). Riding seems very good in city and a bit out of it but I'm not sure that this is good choice for some hard and extreme riding though. 03 November 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by good semi-integrated steering,well-lubricated bearings. 22 August 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by bargain! the total weight is 107 g , without the screw/topcap/lock it´s 78 g ,there´s no need to buy an 100£ headset just to save 25 g , BUY IT! 15 August 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by perfect for scott addict Very nice headset. Well priced and perfect for scott addict or spark. 06 December 2010

Answer:
Not being a Trek dealer I can't be certain but I believe the 6000 series ran a semi-integrated (44mm) headtube, so this headset should be ok, yes.
I would suggest double checking with your local Trek dealer first to confirm the standard your frame is using.

The 2006 GT Avalanche 1.0 is listed as running a semi-integrated / zero-stack headset (44mm headtube internal diameter) for 1.1/8" forks, so this Orbit Z No.9 should be fine, yes.

Answer:
This headset fits a standard 44mm internal diameter headtube (known as zero-stack or semi-integrated). As far as I am aware the 2008 Trance frames all ran a 44mm headtube so this headset should be ok, yes.
