Rated 4 out of 5 by Does the job What can you say about a top cap? Not flashy, but well priced and does the job. 18 August 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Easy to install and durable This product is great quality, it seems very durable and solid. It was also super easy to install! 18 June 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Tis does exactly what it says, good value, too. It fits, perfectly, is easy to setup, looks great, and is, really the device that draws the fork crown, uptight to the frame, before one clamps the aheadset, to the forkś stem-tube. It has to hold! 17 June 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good This top cap performs its simple task well and after a few months of riding hasn't come loose yet. It also looks quite good. If you get it in the sale as I did, then it is excellent value. 25 April 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Good quality Stem/Headset Cap for Good Price The stem/headset cap looks exactly like what's displayed on the CRC website. The price is pretty good compared to other brands. It will fit the 1-1/8" stems so that it will sit on the stem or the stem rings rather than fall through and sit on the stem tube. Therefore, if you order the 1-1/8" cap, it will be larger than the 1-1/8" head tube, which is necessary to preload the headset bearings. I really recommend this for anyone looking for a good quality stem cap if you've lost one or bough a 1-1/8" stem fork without a cap. 07 April 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Not as described Bought this to match my headset sadly the text on it is hollow where's on the pic it's solid white 21 January 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Nice and light top cap! Nice top cap that compliments my spacers and considerably lighter than my previous one. 03 January 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Does exactly what it should do! Good quality product at a very reasonable price (thanks CRC!). No frills but have to say that bike now feels tighter after replacing the old star nut. And it looks okay too. 13 September 2013

Answer:
Yes, this 1.1/8" version of top cap should fit your No.10 headset without any trouble. A standard caged internal headset such as this should consist of a crown race, dust seal, bearing cage, bearing cups and compression ring as shown in the image below.

Answer:
A top cap and star fangled nut isn't directly connected to the headset. this is used to pre-tension your headset bearings by pulling on the entire stack. You then hold the whole thing together once you tighten your stem. If you look at your stack this sits on top of the stack and is either pressing on the stem or a spacer.

You can use any top cap and SFN that fits your steerer type and diameter. I bought this to replace a non-branded top cap on my 29er.
