Garmin Edge 500 Bundle

Sharpen your cycling performance with Edge 500, a lightweight GPS-based cycling computer for performance-driven cyclists. Loaded with data, Edge 500 tracks your distance, speed, location and elevation with high sensitivity GPS. Add an ANT ™ compatible heart rate monitor, speed/cadence sensor or compatible power meter for a finely-tuned analysis of your ride.

Jumpstart Your Training: The Edge 500 attaches easily to the stem or handlebars of your bike with its low-profile bike mount. The Edge attaches easily to the mount with a simple quarter-turn. When you're ready to ride, just power on your Edge, acquire GPS satellites and go. Edge 500 features a high-sensitivity GPS receiver with HotFix™ satellite prediction to calculate your position faster.

Get the Data You Need: During your ride, Edge 500 measures your speed, distance, time, calories burned, altitude, climb and descent, and records this data for your review. For extra-precise climb and descent data, Edge 500 also incorporates a barometric altimeter to pinpoint changes in elevation.

All Edge 500 versions work with third-party ANT -enabled power meters to display your power output in watts as you ride. This valuable data shows you how hard you're working, regardless of conditions affecting your ride, so you can train smarter. Some versions also ship with a digital heart rate monitor and speed/cadence sensor.

Other helpful training features include a Courses feature, which helps you compare successive rides over the same route, as well as Auto Pause, Auto Lap and temperature readings. Edge also alerts you if you’re moving but the timer is not running.

Track Your Heart Rate: When paired with a Garmin heart rate monitor, Edge 500 tracks heart beats per minute and uses your heart rate for advanced calorie computation, so you know how many calories you're burning. Train in a certain heart-rate zone to improve your fitness level or compare your pace and heart rate to past performance over the same ride.

Analyze Your Ride: Once your ride’s done, connect Edge 500 to your computer with the included USB cable to analyze your performance. With a simple click, you can join a worldwide network of cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts through Garmin Connect™, a one-stop site for data analysis and sharing.

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 14 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Tremendous product. Should of purchased one years ago. Weighs in at only 58 grams for the head unit according to a digital scale. Highly accurate. Provides a wealth of ride data which can be uploaded to Strava, Garmin Connect, Training Peaks and Map My Ride. The Premium Heart Rate Monitor with its soft strap is extremely comfortable to wear while riding. The Edge 500 is very easy to use once you become accustomed to it. It can be set up for use with three separate bikes. Great stuff. Highly recommended top product. 07 September 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect to track progress and training Very easy to set up and get started. Can set it up on the device it's self or on the computer. The heart rate strap is comfortable and easy to put on and off. Even after several hours of wearing in dry or wet conditions you can barely tell it is on. The Cadence and Speed sensors come with zip ties and the crank magnet has a sticker but I'd recommend placing the zip tie around it to have peace of time of it going no where. The sticker after a lot of use can become unstuck and fall off. The zip tie will pervent this. Once all is fitted it is simple to swap between bikes and there is up to 3 bikes that can be saved. There are beeps to and displays that tell you that everything is being picked up and that movement is detected to alert you to start the device. 02 August 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Simple and Easy to use Use to monitor HR during training or just want to clock the miles, this is perfect. Simple, no fuss. No fumbling of buttons, just one click and you can see through different pages of data while riding. The mount is very secure on a OS stem. 19 June 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Hugely detailed tracking of stats, and best value bundle So while this is the top end bundle of the Edge 500, it's well worth it if you want (or even might want) the HR and cadence data, as the HR strap is far superior than the standard (in the blue bundle), and to buy these bits separately afterwards would set you back quite a bit more. Featurewise the edge 510 offers a bit more (pairing with phone, touchscreen), but they are honestly features that I would never see myself using, as if I'm on a long ride I don't want the battery drain of pairing it, and if I'm wearing gloves I would be more confident in the physical buttons working! 10 June 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome bit of kit Brill bit of kit has helped with my fitness loads comes with everything you need 22 March 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Excellent Product pretty easy to set up and install. Have had a few issues with it but happy in the main with purchase 28 February 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great bit of kit Really good piece of kit, heart rate and cadence monitor really brings training to the next level making it easier to see how you are progressing. it is great for keeping track of your cycles on garmin connect which shows the route you took and all the information it gathered on the cycle. 07 November 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by No regrets!! I've always used my mobile to log my rides, but after some long rides and wet rides, i realised it wasn't practical. After i ordered this i was in 2 minds whether to send it back or not, it as to me it is a lot of money. There is no way i'm sending this back now. i absolutely love it!!! The negative reviews you read are just the unlucky people i guess as i have had no issues with it at all. So much info pack into it, i now spend more time looking at this rather than looking for pot holes. The virtual partner has also helped push me to knock nearly 2 mins off my 10 mile TT. I would be lost with this now. Fully recommended. Uploads to Garmin Connect and Strava, and definately more accurate than my mobile without sapping its battery. 23 September 2013

Answer:
Yeah, you can configure more than one bike (not sure whether it will take more than 2, but definitely at least 2), and it's well enough set up so that stuff like HR is general, while cadence/power meter, etc. (that would be fitted to the bike itself) are configured under the bike "profile"

When I was looking at Garmin Edge products on the ChainReaction Website a few months ago, I thought I saw a note (with regard to shipping to Canada) that said something about them shipping with only a European charger/adapter? I can't seem to find any such note now. I'm just wondering if I will be able to charge the unit in Canada with the charger supplied, or will I have to find a North American charger/adapter? Thanks in advance for your answer.

Answer:
This is correct, the Garmin computers only Ship with the UK charger adaptor. However a USB cable is included which will charge the unit universally.

Alternatively it is advised to contact the manufacturer in regards to sourcing the charger you require.

Answer:
The one that I ordered has a replaceable plug on it, but only had inserts for EU and UK/Ireland. You might be able to pick up an insert for US/Canada, but even if not it charges over USB in any case, so should work with a PC or maybe even just a powered hub.

Firstly, can we use this Garmin for a running trainning?

Secondly I heard on the video that we can upload or create a training with the HRM,
What does it mean to create a training?
for example 10min at 70% of the HRM, 25min at 80% of the HRM.... is it possible to create directly whit the Gramin or upload with my PC

Answer:
- Yes, you can use this for running as the GPS is very accurate and will give a precise speed as a result

- When it talks about creating training plans, most of these will allow you to write up a training session on the device for whatever you want. Hence, if you want to do intervals; say 2 mins on / 3 mins off, you can set the computer to do this along with a warm up and warm down. This is saved on the device, not Garmin connect (which is their free online program).

- Once you finish any training program with the computer, you can upload it to Garmin connect to view all the details of the training session.
