The XAR offers all the features you’ve come to expect from Giro’s top-level trail-riding helmets—P.O.V.™ adjustable visor; In-mold composition with EPS foam and polycarbonate shell; Roll Cage™ reinforcement—but the XAR heralds a new era of performance, comfort and style. At the heart of this helmet you’ll find 17 Wind Tunnel™ vents as well as optimized internal channelling, and the visor is vented to increase airflow. Breathability on the XAR is incredible; there’s never been a lid this breathable on dirt. Even the padding is extraordinary thanks in part to X-Static fabric.
Suggested Use: All Mountain, trail riding, Endurace/Marathon XC, Super D
In-Mold Construction: Fuses a tough polycarbonate outer shell with the helmet’s impact-absorbing foam liner. The fusion process allows us to sculpt better ventilation systems, so In-mold helmets can be lighter and cooler than traditional helmets.
Wind Tunnel Ventilation: Giro helmets are developed utilizing our proprietary Wind Tunnel™ ventilation system, which combines active vents with internal exhaust channels that thrust cool, fresh air over and around the riders head-while forcing heat and stale air out. This significant increase in air channelling makes a difference that riders will immediately feel and appreciate.
P.O.V. Visor: Point Of View visors are anchored by a patented internal clutch mechanism that allows 15-degrees of tool-free, on-the-fly vertical adjustment while preventing the visor from rattling and coming loose over rough and technical terrain.
Roll Cage: Roll Cage reinforcement is a tough web of DuPont ® Nylon® molded inside a helmet’s EPS foam liner. It provides an extra measure of strength and integrity that you’ll never notice…unless you need it.
X-Static Padding: In addition to being very comfortable, our X-Static pads provide anti-microbial properties to help keep your helmet fresher, longer. The pads are also machine washable.
Roc Loc 5: After more than two-years of development, Giro introduces Roc Loc 5. This groundbreaking fit system provides an entyrely unique user experience with an unmatched level of comfort, stability, adjustability and weight savings. With Roc Loc 5, you can easily dial-in both fit tension and adjust vertical position with a single hand. Just twist the dial for a tighter feel on rough terrain, then back it off a notch and relax across the flats or a warm climb. Even with these remarkable features, Roc Loc 5 is still nearly 40-percent lighter than its popular predecessor, Roc Loc 4.
Micro Dial: The heart of Roc Loc 5 is this ratcheting, micro-adjusting dial. A simple, two-finger twist of the Micro Dial opens or closes the retention system and each click is audible.
Three-Position Bracket: It’s never been easier to change vertical positions and fine-tune fit. We incorporated a three-position bracket that features 15-millimeters of up/down movement. Like the Micro Dial, this system can be adjusted without removing the helmet. Carefully-crafted ergonomic arms are shaped to be as comfortable as possible, yet work flawlessly with Giro eyewear (what we call Super Fit engineering).
Dual Pods: These two panels are designed to firmly grasp the back of your head while comfortably cradling the occipital lobe.
Strap Baskets: With Roc Loc 5, your helmet straps are always right where you need them. Not to mention this strap basket brings a new level of comfort.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Jimi911 Great Lid ... saved my head!
I have been happy with Giro products for a long time. My road and XC helmet are all Giros.
I have been riding the 2012 Xar for about a year and a half. Light, great fit, and looks good on my giant head. I use it for XC and my daily commute.
I recently had a pretty epic high-side while commuting home and I fully credit this helmet keeping me out of an ambulance or much worse. The helmet cracked from the impact, and held up while slid on my head for about 6 feet. I'll be getting another Xar.

Rated 2 out of 5 by frele Tricky fit, strange straps
What i noticed after i updated from older MET helmet:
-Straps have twists even when postitioned normally. No neat way to route them.
-Hard to adjust strap tension.
-Tightening band does not wrap around your head. I can lift the helmet from my forehead no matter how tight i screw the nut.
-This is a heavy helmet.
-Band interferes with my glasses or with my ears
-On long rides I have difficulties with the band tightness. It feels too tight, but if i loosen it helmet feels unsecure.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Urbs Great lid ..... very poor roc lock
The lid itself is great, it is robust, light and well designed. However the roc lock is so flimsey it really isn't up to the job. My roc lock failed ( started to fall apart ) after 3 - 4 weeks of use. The E2's roc locks were much better. You'd hope for something better for the cost !!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Anonymous well made classic
After the roc loc and buckle broke on my well used Giro Xen I had a good look around for a new lid from a number of manufacturers. As I ride MTB, CX and road so ideally wanted something that would suit all three. Eventually chose the Xar - direct descendant of the Xen and have not been disappointed. Construction is top notch with the foam enclosed all the way round and a clean unfussy style. You can unclip the peak if you want a more roadie look or just if it annoys you, it looks ok but not that different from a road lid so that adds a bit of versatility. Recommended.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Anonymous Excellent Helmet, great fit.
Gave my new helmet a work out today in the South West of WA. Very happy with this helmet. It was not my first or second choice, but was the only one that gave a size in cm, which was the selling point. The fit is great, the strap ajustment is easy and makes the helmet sit well. The rear wheel ajustment is spot on and the ventilation is very good. A fair price for a great product, would recommend and buy another, no problem.
