Be sure to specify to CRC if you want one complete length of outer cable if you need more than 1 metre, otherwise you'll end up with two separate 1m pieces if you order 2m. Happened to me the first time, then ordered again and made sure of this. I'll write a proper review once i get some time on it.

This has been good cable for me and a BB7 system so far. First off, if you want one complete cable outer for your rear brake then you must specify this to Chain reaction cycles, otherwise you might end up with 1 metre pre cut lengths, but with CRC being so good, they resent me the cable outer in a ONE COMPLETE 3 METRE LENGTH; Thanks CRC. The cable outer does require good cable cutters, and then file the cut ends down to a flat surface, then poke a pointed object inside to open up the plastic sleeve. I used the GOODRIDGE BRAKE CABLE KIT here also, The ferrules are good and keep your system 'flex free'. Be careful when cutting this cable outer- the cable is made, as the other guy said, with the metal rods running lengthways, as it does in gear cable outer, but theres more- around the outside of the metal rods is a fine metal mesh reinforcement (as you can see in the picture), be careful of it because it is like very fine needles and will get stuck in your hand, 2 weeks with tweezers to get it out!

With this (1m Carbon) I bought a Goodridge inner (pre-stretched and also PTFE coated) http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=22238 to use with a Clarks CMD-8 front disc brake. Proper cable cutters recommended. The outer seems stiffer than a lot of others I've tried and holds its position when bent. Cable discs seem to work best by ensuring there is no slack in the cable setup and by keeping the fixed pad adjusted as close to the rotor as possible without rubbing. Can't be as powerful as hydraulic discs but for general XC riding they work well and the PTFE coating seems to help.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Anonymous BAD cables !
This is the worst cable I have ever owned, and I've owned a lot of cables. First of all, to cut these, even with pro cable cutters, it's hard ! Secondly, it took me 15 min to get the derailler cable in there, and when it was all set, the cable doesn't slide well making shifting way harder. Go for something else.

I bought white brake cable outer to match my other white stuff, but this certainly isn't white. Instead it's something between grey and light blue.

Bought the Goodridge cables in silver to match my brake hoses, unfortunately after only 2 months the cable outer has wore through in two places and the braided wire case is fraying and looking a mess.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous Stiffer than any cable outer I ever seen
I have initially ordered the XTR brake cable set, but the outer there comes pre-cut into two parts, while my frame requires a single line from the lever to the rear brake. So I ordered two metres of Goodridge one. I don't regret at the slightest! Imortantly, unlike the majority of brake outers, this one does not have the spiral cord inside. This one has the cords running along the length - like in shifter cable outers. This makes the outer really really stiff, much stiffer than conventional spiral outers (at least twice as stiff as the XTR one). Forget about SRAM Full Metal Jacket for 40 odd quid, get this one for 8 and your cable will run in a virtually uncompressable hose all along from the handlebar to the brakes.
