Rated 4 out of 5 by Anonymous great outers
Really good outers, two years on still good.
Like others have said, need some good cutters to get them right, lot more robust that shimano outers. Used the Goodridge inners to start with but didn't find them any better than shimano inners, now run goodridge outers with shimano inners and just annually replace the inners.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Anonymous Good for MTB but not road shifters
I bought a length of this to use on my cross bike and whilst it functions perfectly well it does not work with my Campagnolo road shifters. The gear outer is the same as Goodridge's brake outer and at 5mm in diameter will not fit into the levers.Four stars for function - just missing out on five as the cable is a little too stiff.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Anonymous impressed but a little disappointed
came over the weekend so please with postage came in one of CRCs massively oversized boxes anlong with a new rear mech and shifter. I ordered two meters and the section i got got was a little more BUT there was a HUGE dent in the centre of the cable... which was noticed when i tried to push the wire through and it got stuck. a ride to LBS and they managed to get it sorted.
works fine looks INSANE in white recommended with the shimano saint shifter.
your 4mm ferrules will not fit properly you will need to buy more
overall a very good very strong cable with great clean sticking
4 stars for dent in cable

Agree with this guy the outer cable is just not stiff enough to give consistent gear changes. Have gone straight back to the shimano outer cable which is much better and cheaper. Plus the outer diameter is too larger to fit the standard end caps over. Not impressed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous Dont question it, just buy this stuff. Very nice quality, very durable, no inner wire slippage and looks nice. Only thing i will say is protect your frame and forks this cable will literally wear through anything if your not careful.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Anonymous Split plastic outer
Bought in March 2011 and it is now October 2011. The plastic outer coating has now begun to split where the rear suspension pivots. In my opinion it is not flexible enough so I think it's a waste of money. May look good but not for long. I'm running full length outers and the split defeats the purpose by allowing water in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous Very smooth, really pretty, quite stiff, 5mm o.d.
I've had Shimano XTR cables before, and after 4 years of year-long use (including riding the bike in -30C weather in the winter) the outer cables plastic had a lot of cracks, allowing the braiding to rust. They kept working smooth (as I regularly applied silicone spray thru the Middleburn cable oilers I've installed, really recommend them), though, but cosmetically were looking awful.
So I picked these goodridge cables to replace all my cables, brake and gear. This time, I've decided to run full-length cable outers. Spent several hours with a dremel enlarging the cable outer stops on my titanium frame, then installed the cables. I've used almost all of the 3 meters of gear cable outer I've ordered, for my hardtail. If you order the whole goodridge gear cable kit, measure carefully if it will have enough outer for your bike - the kit includes only 2 meters of the outer. I bought the kit plus another meter of outer (enough for the full run to the front mech, at least on my bike, but you better check it on your bike before ordering).
The outers are quite stiff, if you want clean cuts, care must be taken when cutting them. Proper tooling is absolutely essential - I've used Park tool's cable cutters with good results, followed with a little squeeze with a pair of pliers to restore the cut end to the round shape, then an awl (or a sharp metal probe) to open up the squeezed inner PTFE tubing, then I gave the cut ends a little care with a file, to make sure the cut end is straight (this may be optional, but I'm a perfectionist). The cable can also be cut with good results using a Dremel with a cut-off wheel.
Since these outers are so stiff (due to the additional stainless braiding underneath the plastic cover), they have to be routed in wider arcs than other, less stiff (e.g. Shimano XTR) outers. Thus I've ended up with somewhat longer outers than I've had before. For some people, this may be a problem. I can live with that if this brings me more durability (will see about that).
The thing to note is that this gear cable outer has 5mm outer diameter, larger than most outers (these are usually 4mm). Thus most (if not all) non-goodridge gear ferrules/caps etc. (e.g. the excellent shimano sealed ferrules) won't fit.
Due to this, I couldn't reuse my 4mm Middleburn cable oilers, good thing I had a spare one. I decided the front mech cable can live without an oiler.
I've installed the Middleburn cable oilers and Goodridge ferrules on these cables, I also used 3:1 adhesive-lined heatshrink tubing on all outer-ferrule and outer-oiler connections to waterproof them. The Goodridge ferrules are made of aluminum (good), not plastic like Shimano.
So far I've been using the cables for a month, very smooth (I lubricate the cables with a 3M dry-type silicone spray), no problems so far. In fact, the shifting and braking performance is as good as I've had with the XTR cables, and I'm running full-length enclosed cable runs now.
Can't say regarding the durability of these outers yet, I will write another review in a year or more.
