I am far from what could be described as a 'bike mechanic', but my first brake bleed attempt was made simple with this kit. I managed to bleed my HFX-9 brakes with no fuss and no mess (and am still in shock that I did it).
I read quite a few reviews and forums relating to bleeding before undertaking the task and there are certainly mixed views out there about this kit and these brakes, but for me it was hassle free.
I'd recommend downloading the Hayes instructions and then looking at some online forums for guidance within the general parameters set out by Hayes (the Hayes instructions are not particularly clear, but make sense once reading through other people's approaches). Then just take a slow and methodical approach to the job.

Poor. Although the Hayes kit is meant to be compatible with the Helix6 brakes wich are fitted to my Cannondale SL4 none of the connectors fit the lower bleed point. This resulted in oil everywhere and the pads getting ruined. Eventually got the job done using a borrowed suringe. Also no instructions came with the pack. In my opinion a kit with suringes would do the job much much more efficiently.

Follow the instructions, the kit has everything you need to bleed the brakes. It makes easier to have a mounting pole but even without it you can still achieve success. You might need Isopyrl alcohol to clean the caliper. I bled successfully the HFX 9.

definitively a must if you wanna do it by yourself; I've tried doing it without the kit (with the syringe version), hopping that just the oil flow will do it, but lost all of breaking power and just created a big mess. In the end what saved the day was a kit that fit snugly and took care of the tiny air bubbles; also brake fluid from my car was just fine...

I would not recommend this kit. A better bleed can be achieved using a shringe and flexi pipe onto the caliper and reverse bleeding it.
Also using automotive DOT4 fluid is a lot cheaper than the small amount included in the kit.
