Hope MTB Bottom Bracket

The eagerly anticipated external bottom bracket is now available, with two different bearing options. All common systems are covered with this upgrade unit - making it ideal for Shimano, Race Face and others.

The machined aluminium cups hold either full stainless steel cartridge bearings, or ceramic bearings in stainless races. These custom, Swiss made bearings are double sealed, fully serviceable and removable which give much greater life span than stock units.
The bearings are made (as all our bearings are) by INA and have been designed to run directly on the crankset axle, without the use of shims or spacers - again increasing life and reliability.

We use a non contact, free running labyrinth seal to protect the bearing externally, and the machined aluminium centre tube is sealed internally with o-rings. The unit is suitable for 68 & 73mm shell width’s - a dedicated 83mm unit is also available. Standard 6 colours are available on cups - red, blue, silver, black, gold and gunmetal, with the centre tubes being black on the stainless and gunsmoke on the ceramic.

  • Available sizes: 68/73mm & 83mm
  • Various anodized colours available
  • Not suitable for use with FSA Cranks

Note: For use with a GXP bottom bracket you will need the Hope GXP adaptor, this can be found here.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Being running this for near on two years now and it's still runs super smooth - the only thing i dislike is the plastic shimm washers that are supplied - as these are plastic they allow the bearing cups to loosen under the pressure of use - i soon made a new pair on my lathe from some aircraft grade Alloy the bearing cups have never come loose since - i think for the quality of the BB hope have let themselves down with the cheap tacky plastic shimm washers - come on Hope get your act together i'm sure it would be worth your while to supply alloy shimm washers as standard or at least make them a optional extra ! still give it ***** stars for the smoothness and superb looks :) 13 February 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Bearings lasted 2 rides in severe raining. The good side is that I opened and regreased them. Not that they run smoothly now but they do their job.Probably I will change them with Enduro bearings.Everything else very good 26 August 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by had this on for about 3 month and rode some pretty sketchy trails and as been machine guned with dirt and grime no noises or friction and fairly good value and as smooth as butter 09 August 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Ive brought the stainless steel version and itts brilliant it just spins and spins. Just wondering would the ceramic be better for DH, could the bearings be more brittle and facture more easier??? Otherwise great stuff CRC 05 July 2011
Rated 4 out of 5 by A good BB but bearings have needed a re-grease after every 1000 miles or so. Seals good despite repeated in/out maintenance. Grit can work it's way past the plastic outer seal and build up so do need a bit of attention to fish out the crap now and again. My XTR external BB has still outlasted it with no maintenance though. Alu sleeve is very nice but you don't see it so is it worth paying for the machining? Replacement bearings £16 each seem expensive. 11 May 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Been running this for about 12 months. The bearings are in mint condition, it spins as smooth now as it did out of the box and is clearly a quality item. The bearings are replacable so no more buying whole new units and less landfill, which can only be good. Contrary to other reviews mine has never ever come loose - its essential to have your frame faced before fitting, then you should have no problems with it. More expensive than shimano and similar but will go on and on with just the occasional bearing change. Recommended. 09 May 2011
Rated 2 out of 5 by Was a good little bottom bracket, bearings lasted well over 12months hench 2*'s. As other reviews say, IT COMES LOOSE far too easily... Now the Yeti has a sriped BB shell. Fitted a Raceface DH BB, they have a 30% longer thread compared to hope and others. Luckily the hope was made of such soft material the mojority of the damage was to the BB itself. Partly my fault for not checking after a jump/FR sesh (was dark whilst cleaning!) should I have to check after every ride? with this BB, yes. 18 March 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by I had this bottom bracket fitted to my Orange crush as few months ago. It just spins and spins with little effort, super, super smooth. I'm actually enjoying my bike more since I had this fitted. I'm not expecting to have to replace the bearings anytime soon and it has already had a good bit of hammer in all sorts of conditions both weather and technical trails wise. But when the time does come its easy enough just to pop the old bearings out and replace with same or can upgrade to the ceramic bearings. Well worth the money especially when you think the bottom bracket is the area of the bike that gets the most hammer, the engine room of the bike if you like. Hope just run and run. For this price its a bargain! 18 November 2010

Answer:
The Hope bottom bracket is an external bracket system, where the cups and bearings screw into the frame and allow the use of an integrated 24mm diameter axle chainset to be fitted. The Evolve ISIS cranks use the cartridge style ISIS bracket, where the axle is part of the bottom bracket assembly rather than part of the cranks, so this Hope bracket will not be suitable for use with an ISIS interface chainset.

Answer:
The cranksets intended for use with this 83mm bottom bracket are generally Downhill specific cranksets.

SRAM cranskets which have a 83mm spindle require the Hope Bottom Bracket adaptor.
