Hope MTB Bottom Bracket - Ceramic - 68/73mm

All common systems are covered with this upgrade unit - making it ideal for Shimano, Race Face and others. The machined aluminium cups hold either full stainless steel cartridge bearings, or ceramic bearings in stainless races.

These custom, Swiss made bearings are double sealed, fully serviceable and removable which give much greater life span than stock units. The bearings are made (as all Hope bearings are) by INA and have been designed to run directly on the crankset axle, without the use of shims or spacers -again increasing life and reliability.

Hope use a non contact, free running labyrinth seal to protect the bearing externally, and the machined aluminium centre tube is sealed internally with o-rings. The unit is suitable for 68 & 73mm shell width's.

Hope MTB Bottom Bracket - Ceramic - 68/73mm Features:

  • The unit is suitable for 68 & 73mm shell width’s
  • Weight 109g

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 10 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Good long laseting bearings Perfect for long hard rides. Smooth pedal strokes. 02 July 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by hope quality the look is awesome, they are light and ceramic bearing is a charm !!! no problem with 2 year of use. 14 January 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome piece of kit Always went for the cheaper option, decided to spend some money! and I'm so glad I did, so so smooth pedal action. Usual brilliant build quality from Hope. Great option to have replaceable sealed bearings so its cheaper for when they finally do give up. 08 November 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by No problem at all! I bought this since my Saint BB was old and needed a serious service. I gave this one a try. More expensive but you get what you pay for. Mounted, and then used the whole season without any problem. 10 September 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Bulletproof Used to burn through Shimano XT in 6 months. I've had this one for 3 years and still smooth as butter, it might outlast my frame. 10 August 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Probably the best Have it on my XC rig since 2009, never had a problem. I cannot imagine there could be a better BB in the market. 10 August 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by 7000km,s of use! I have just replaced this BB after some pretty hardcore riding approaching 7000kms. I didnt have to replace it, but as I have a big ride coming up I decided to play it safe. In the 4 years that I used it not once did it give me grief, trained and rode the 2010 Freedom Challenge(2300km), the 2012 R2R and most of my training for the FC 2013. BULLET PROOF.Highly recommended. 09 April 2013
Rated 1 out of 5 by Poor reliability Well made as can be expected from Hope, but bearings last approx 4 rides of 40 km's before collapsing from lack of lubrication. Trail riding is mainly flats with lots of sand and dust so would NOT reccomend due to high price and poor reliability. This is the only Hope product I would not buy again! 22 July 2012

Hi guys, do any of you know if this will fit. My frame is a 73mm currently fitted with the Shimano XT M785 10 Speed Double Chainset and BB, the Shimano BB is pretty cheap so I am looking to replace it with something that will last.

Can I fit this to my bike?

My bike comes with a 68x118mm BB, I would like a heavy duty BB as I'am 6'5", weigh close to 300lbs and take my bike on XC trails.

Answer:
This bottom bracket is for use with cranksets which require an external bottom bracket to be used like Shimano hollowtech II or Raceface X-Type.

If you have a bottom bracket with a spindle which is 118mm long, this is the wrong type of bottom bracket for you.

You could either buy a better quality version of the bottom bracket which you have got (if one is avalable) or upgrade your crankset to a Shimano hollowtech II version.

Im guessing you are using a 9 speed triple set up so ive reccommended a couple of cranksets below which come with a bottom bracket included but would allow you to also upgrade to the Hope bottom bradket in the future.

Just brought FSA bearings from chainreaction but found they are wrong size (wont return them from other side of the world) they needed to be 24x37x7 for my pinarello MOST crank, but the inner diminsion is much larger. Seems ChainReaction doesnt sell the FSABearings (24377-2RS01) to fit my bike, and i was thinking of buying your Hope BB steel bearings (alone, no cups) which seem to be ok size for my FSA cups, but better idea could be to get this more expensive full ceramic BB, provided it is suitable for my MOST crank. Your help please. Of course could just take the bike to the shop, but where is the fun in that.

How long is the threaded section?

I've only got about 15mm of thread inside the shell of my 2011 Saracen Ariel, and have just failed to fit a Race Face BB because the threaded part is too long. I''d like one of these Hopes, but want to check this first.

Answer:
The bottom bracket has been measured at my desk and the following measurements as requested are:

Drive Side Thread - 14.78mm.
Non-Drive Side Thread - 12.61mm.

There should be plenty of room in the frame for these cups to fit.
