Hope MTB Bottom Bracket - Steel - 68/73mm

All common systems are covered with this upgrade unit - making it ideal for Shimano, Race Face and others. The machined aluminium cups hold either full stainless steel cartridge bearings, or ceramic bearings in stainless races.

These stainless steel custom, Swiss made bearings are double sealed, fully serviceable and removable which give much greater life span than stock units. The bearings are made (as all Hope bearings are) by INA and have been designed to run directly on the crankset axle, without the use of shims or spacers -again increasing life and reliability.

Hope use a non contact, free running labyrinth seal to protect the bearing externally, and the machined aluminium centre tube is sealed internally with o-rings. The unit is suitable for 68 & 73mm shell width's.

Hope MTB Bottom Bracket - Steel - 68/73mm Features:

  • The unit is suitable for 68 & 73mm shell width’s
  • Internal and External sealing
  • Weight 110g

Rated 5 out of 5 by 10 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great! Been using the same BB since 2009, over 8,000 miles and still going strong. I've only greased it 3-4 times and it's perfect inside everytime. This will never creak like some other cheap BB. Spend the extra money and buy this. It'll never die. 12 March 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great product Very good quality on these bb. After 500km and quite a lot of mud and dirt (and washes), they are still running quietly and smoothly. The adapter rings for gxp worked nicely. 06 March 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Bomb proof, maintainable, bottom bracket. In short you get what you pay for! Hope are the business (and I'm not employed by them :0) )...... I have a 'collection' of Orange bikes (P7; 5 etc), British bikes used in British conditions (I ride every weekend and during the week when work permits) and I could never understand why a British bearing is never used as standard on these bikes. It is an option, but when riding in all sorts of conditions, the supplied Race Face etc bearings just can't cope. I went through a set of supplied Race Face BB in 4 months on my first bike and replaced them with the SS Hope..... and had fantastic, trouble free, use ever since ( and that's pushing 4 years now). I've upgraded all my bikes to Hope bearings now. Easy to maintain, I do it every 6 months, strip an lube takes, easily, under an hour from start to finish .... And you don't have to be a rocket scientist to do it, just use the correct BB tool (the chain reaction one is great) . It can look like a large outlay for a replacement, but it will save you in the long run ( so the con isn't really a con)..... As I said, you get what you pay for.... The best accolade for these bearings is that you never notice them. They just just go on, and on....... And on 03 November 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 De facto for a good reason Great peice of kit, works well, looks great, made in the UK by orks.. What else could you want? 14 October 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent quality that is truly rebuildable This bottom bracket is of great quality. The bearings are superb and spin super smoothly. When they do finally die, they are completely replaceable, with the new ones lasting just as long (unlike previous attempts to replace bearings in SRAM cups). 04 August 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Smooth Just replaced the SRAM GXP ceramic junk fitted to my Whyte 901 for this tasty unit. It was easy to fit (the instructions tell you where to put spacers but to be fair it's pretty obvious). You will need the conversion kit which consists of two press-in cups that are mounted to the bearing cartridge on the non drive side - I just lined them up and popped them in the flat wooden jaws of my vice and pressed them in. There is a plastic spacer slip joint on the GXP drive side which needs to go - then it's a nice tight fit when you wind the other crank on - super smooth. 15 April 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Brilliant Ive been running this BB on my bike for 2yrs now, riding 3 times a week around most S.Wales trail centres/natural riding/enduro's and it hasnt missed a beat. I do regularly (once every 3mths) remove the dust seal, clean it, smear lightly with grease and reassemble. I previously used Shimano, Raceface and Superstar and got an average of 8mths out of them. Plus the great part of hope BB's is that you can replace the bearings individually when needed. Highly recommend! 13 October 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Was running Raceface x-type, but kept wearing out drive side bearing every 3-4 months replaced with Hope SS and running great after 6-months winter riding. 25 August 2012

This statement is in reference to what is available from Hope.

These bottom bracket variations are limited the bottom bracket shell sizes that they are designed to fit.

For truvativ gxp, i needed the hope gxp converters. Truvativ and sram are the same company, so I would assume that the diameters are the same. Maybe you can check it out somewhere. I have a truvative stylo crank.

I want to change my Truvative BB GXP to the Hope Stainless Steel BB. I understand that this can be done if you use the Hope Bottom Bracket Truvative GXP Converter. I want to change because I am fed up having to keep changing the Truvative Gxp, they just don't last. With the Hope model it appears you can just replace the bearings instead of the whole thing. (Trying to do my bit for the planet !) However as you have to fit the spacers into the bearing, does that mean
A) you cannot replace the bearings on that side, you have to buy the external cup as well as the bearing?
B) do you have to buy a new set of converters every time you replace as at A ?

Answer:
The bearings in the Hope brackets can be freely replaced without the need to replace the cups, and the GXP converter inserts (which are press in) can also be removed and reinserted as needed.

Answer:
Hi!

Did exactly what you're planning to do, but haven't had to change bearings yet.

Yes, once the adpters are mounted, you cannot remove them. New bearing, new adapters. But for having used the same trash as you did, these hope look to be lasting a lot more. After 500km of mud, they are still quiet running.

The bearings can be removed from both cups, w or without the adapters. Just need the right tool, or something equivalent.

Provided your model of the Altitude frame features an English Threaded bottom bracket shell then this is the correct item for your frame and RaceFace chainset combination.

Answer:
FSA recommend that you only use FSA bottom brackets with FSA cranks, as they have a very slight taper to them. They can be fitted to Shimano bottom brackets (and therefore other clones such as the Hope or RaceFace) but they will be a very tight fit both for installation and removal. It is not recommended to deviate away from FSA brackets if running a FSA crank.

Yes this would be a suitable upgrade; however be aware that only a Shimano Hollowtech II crankset is compatible. The square taper crankset that came with the bike is not compatible.
