Hope MTB Bottom Bracket - Steel - 68/73mm

All common systems are covered with this upgrade unit - making it ideal for Shimano, Race Face and others. The machined aluminium cups hold either full stainless steel cartridge bearings, or ceramic bearings in stainless races.

These stainless steel custom, Swiss made bearings are double sealed, fully serviceable and removable which give much greater life span than stock units. The bearings are made (as all Hope bearings are) by INA and have been designed to run directly on the crankset axle, without the use of shims or spacers -again increasing life and reliability.

Hope use a non contact, free running labyrinth seal to protect the bearing externally, and the machined aluminium centre tube is sealed internally with o-rings. The unit is suitable for 68 & 73mm shell width's.

Hope MTB Bottom Bracket - Steel - 68/73mm Features:

  • The unit is suitable for 68 & 73mm shell width’s
  • Internal and External sealing
  • Weight 110g

Rated 4.9 out of 5 by 17 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Brilliant - so much better than the non servicable alternatives. Fitted this as an old Shimano BB was on it's way out. Easy to install, bearings were noticeably smoother on first fit. Had a few really muddy and wet rides and it's working as expected. Keep it serviced and this should be a bottom bracket that will last the lifetime of the bike. 12 August 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by best bb for the money. Good price. Nice and smooth and fully serviceable. Used others in the past but always gone back to hope 04 August 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Excellent build quality Very well made, and the bearing choice (bearings not made by Hope), is also excellent. Silky smooth, high quality materials; the BB is entirely dependant on the bearings and failure here would ruin the products reputation, so an intelligent specification decision. I've owned both the ceramic and s/s and find them equally as good. I only criticise the cost - 10 to 15% cheaper would make these untouchable, but unfortunately business taxes and charges by UK government would make this near impossible for Hope. Buy British, support our manufacturing industry, the quality is worth it. 03 August 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by
Rated 5 out of 5 by As Smooth as a Velvet Cod-piece!!!! If you need a new B/B then don't be confused by American hardware! Get a great bottom bracket that won't break the bank, but delivers big when it comes to performance & quality and best of all, its made in England, get one today you won't be sorry!! 03 June 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by top Replaced a GXP with one of these after the sram model failed at 1000kms. This hope product is well made and super smooth. looks great. After sales good too after i wanted to check the shim installation. top marks. 01 June 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by 12 May 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great! Been using the same BB since 2009, over 8,000 miles and still going strong. I've only greased it 3-4 times and it's perfect inside everytime. This will never creak like some other cheap BB. Spend the extra money and buy this. It'll never die. 12 March 2014

I want to change my Truvative BB GXP to the Hope Stainless Steel BB. I understand that this can be done if you use the Hope Bottom Bracket Truvative GXP Converter. I want to change because I am fed up having to keep changing the Truvative Gxp, they just don't last. With the Hope model it appears you can just replace the bearings instead of the whole thing. (Trying to do my bit for the planet !) However as you have to fit the spacers into the bearing, does that mean
A) you cannot replace the bearings on that side, you have to buy the external cup as well as the bearing?
B) do you have to buy a new set of converters every time you replace as at A ?

Answer:
The bearings in the Hope brackets can be freely replaced without the need to replace the cups, and the GXP converter inserts (which are press in) can also be removed and reinserted as needed.

Answer:
Hi!

Did exactly what you're planning to do, but haven't had to change bearings yet.

Yes, once the adpters are mounted, you cannot remove them. New bearing, new adapters. But for having used the same trash as you did, these hope look to be lasting a lot more. After 500km of mud, they are still quiet running.

The bearings can be removed from both cups, w or without the adapters. Just need the right tool, or something equivalent.

The "Hope MTB 83mm Bottom Bracket-Steel" documentation states "•The unit is suitable for 68 & 73mm shell width’s " dose this mean that I can use 68mm & 73mm Cranksets with it with an adapter, or directly mounted ?

For truvativ gxp, i needed the hope gxp converters. Truvativ and sram are the same company, so I would assume that the diameters are the same. Maybe you can check it out somewhere. I have a truvative stylo crank.

Answer:
The Hope bottom brackets are Hollowtech II compatible, so run a 24mm crank axle. The E13 XC Cranks run a 30mm polygon spindle, and so require a specific E13 bottom bracket (which is supplied with their cranks).

Answer:
Yes this would be a suitable upgrade; however be aware that only a Shimano Hollowtech II crankset is compatible. The square taper crankset that came with the bike is not compatible.

Answer:
FSA recommend that you only use FSA bottom brackets with FSA cranks, as they have a very slight taper to them. They can be fitted to Shimano bottom brackets (and therefore other clones such as the Hope or RaceFace) but they will be a very tight fit both for installation and removal. It is not recommended to deviate away from FSA brackets if running a FSA crank.
