Hope Retainer Narrow Wide Chainring

The new Retainer Ring is designed to work without the need for a chain guide (with the use of a Clutch style rear mech).

No need for heavy chainguides, noisy drivetrain and drag. CNC machined 7075-T6 aluminium provides the perfect blend of light weight and strength.

The chainring is compatible with 9spd, 10spd and 11spd set ups. A hard anodised finish makes these ultra durable and increases longevity. Available in 104mm PCD, 4 bolt fitting.

Specification:

  • Available as a 30t,32t, 34t and 36t Chainring size
  • 104 PCD 4 bolt pattern
  • No need to run chain device
  • Designed to work with conventional 9, 10 or 11spd set ups

Rated 4.9 out of 5 by 16 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Value for money Light weight, never drop chain ever since fixed on the bike. highly recommended. 16 September 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Good Wide Chainring. Replaced Surly on Hope, wear is not observed (3000km), chainring very light, excellent quality, everything is super! 11 September 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Top notch Does what it says. Not dropped a chain yet. Good buy 03 September 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great chainring Not the cheapest but did excatly what it's meant to and didn't drop the chain on recent trip to the Alps. Having the thread in the chainring is a great feature and fitted easily to my current 9 speed SLX triple. Coupled with a new XT medium cage rear mech with clutch has significantly reduced clatter at the back on my bike! 26 August 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by all I Hoped for.. fantastic design and engineering from Hope that we have come to expect from the British Brand. The narrow/wide teeth hold the chain in place with no slips to date and looks amazing in gold. 05 August 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by A revelation! As always a high quality Hope product. Moved from using a chain guide, to this narrow wide plus clutch mech.......amazing. Less noise, less drag no dropped chain. Why wouldn't you? 28 July 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by
Rated 5 out of 5 by Solid from Hope I bought this to convert to a 1x setup alongside an XT 11-36 cassette. I went for the 30t option because where I ride is nothing but technical hills, I'm either climbing or descending rocky runs that need very few pedal strokes. It made sense to sacrifice the top end of my gear range and keep the low end. If you ride more single track, trails or use roads to link riding spots then you'll probably want a bigger ring. Really sturdy and well made from Hope as always. The chain will brush the 2nd cog when in the highest gear so it's not a perfect setup on my stump jumper fsr but I can live with it. A larger size ring may also solve that as from 32t upwards the alignment is slightly more outward. There is also a bit of a rumble sound / feel from the chainring to get used to. I've put that down to the tons of extra contact you get from the wider teeth and don't see it as a problem. 02 July 2014

Answer:
Yes , you would need a 9 speed chain if running 1x9 and likewise an eleven speed chain for 1x11 but if you are running 1x10 then a 10 chain is required

Answer:
This depends on the Bolt Circle Diameter of the Crank spider that is currently being used.

Please supply the crank model to our Technical Department below and we can advise further -

You will need outer bolts to link a ring with a bash (same principle as running a double or the outers on a triple).
