Hope Ceramic Road Bottom Bracket

The eagerly anticipated road specific external bottom bracket is now available. The machined aluminium cups hold ceramic bearings in stainless races. These custom, Swiss made bearings are double sealed, fully serviceable and removable which give much greater life span than stock units. The bearings are made (as all our bearings are) by INA and have been designed to run directly on the crankset axle, without the use of shims or spacers - again increasing life and reliability. Hope use a non contact, free running labyrinth seal to protect the bearing externally, and the machined aluminium centre tube is sealed internally with o-rings.

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 4 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Nice Hope Packaging for my Red Ceramic BB. This purchase is to replace my current Ultegra BB-6700. After riding for 200km, I observed a slight increase on my cadence during my last 3 Weekend Group Rides. To maintain the same cadence, I had to at times lowered my gear from 17T to 16T. I was informed by Hope that the inscription "Ceramic/Stainless" actually meant Ceramic Bearings and Stainless Steel races. Not Ceramic bearing on one side and SS on the other as mentioned by the previous reviewer. 08 January 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Enfin des roulements corrects Après avoir été décu par 2 FSA, je suis passé au Hope Ceramique, et je ne le regrette pas, il marche encore très bien. J'espère qu'il tiendra des années maintenant. 08 April 2010
Rated 4 out of 5 by Very smooth BB with good seals Yes, ceramic bearings are very smooth and apparently last longer than stamdard stainless steel bearings and races. However this bottom bracket has slightly larger bearings which stnad up to more use/abuse than smaller ones I have used. Also an external BB is only as good as it's seals and this product is importantly sealed for British weather. I have used other bottom brackets and this is smoother than a Dura Ace whilst being just as durable. Be careful of other bottom brackets which last only a matter of weeks. This BB has so far lasted 6 months in awful weather conditions and stood up to my 18 stones. Also a very reasonable price and I would not be upset if I had to buy another in 12 months time. 08 April 2010
Rated 4 out of 5 by Smooth running Runs really smooth, excellent value, though a bit surprised that only ceramic bearings on one side. 08 April 2010

Answer:
These bottom brackets are compatible with Shimano, RaceFace and Truvativ/SRAM drivetrains only; for 68mm bottom bracket shells.

Campagnolo crankset's are not compatible with these bottom brackets.

SRAM GXP

I have a cyclocross bike with SRAM GXP crankset (68mm). Will the Hope road BB be compatible?

Or do I buy the MTB version, with the GXP adaptors, and would there be any benefit to this on a CX bike - eg riding through mud.

Answer:
You need to buy the version to match your chainset; a MTB chainset runs a 95mm axle, while Road runs 90mm. Whichever bracket you need, to run a GXP crank you will need to fit the GXP adaptors to it.
