IXS Trail RS Helmet

Designed, tested and built with co-operation from freeride legend Richie Schley, the Trail RS offers impressive, downhill worthy protection with the lightweight and comfort of a Cross Country helmet.

iXS' Trail RS Helmet uses a double in-mould construction that offers exceptional protection - certified to EN1078 & CPCS standards - while cramming in 22 vents. These vents are combined with a large, sculptured visor that directs air into the helmet to keep you cool.

The Trail RS Helmet's visor is fastened using motocross inspired adjusters that hold the visor in an adjustable position. The visor also features a quick release mechanism to prevent damage in a crash.

iXS Trail RS Helmets are incredibly light for their level of protection, weighing in at between 300g and 320g.

"I ride up, ride down - I kind of do everything. The ultimate deal now days is to have on set up and that would be an all-mountain or enduro set up. Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 10 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great lid! I had been thinking about a new helmet to replace my tired (and cheap) Giro Indicator xc lid, and decided to go down the route of a 'trail' style helmet with a bit more coverage. I'm used to a full face for DH and ride a 160mm travel bike the rest of the time, so figured more protection couldn't hurt. Initially it was between this, the Bell Super, Troy Lee A1, 661 Recon. However every review I read said the TLD was too hot, and the 661 had huge sizing. I wear a M/L for a 60cm head circumference and it is perfect. So it was IXS or Bell. I wasn't convinced by Bell's idea to put your goggles up under the peak, as surely they just steam up when you're hot?? After inquiring of a random rider on an SB66 wearing a Bell Super what they thought, the reply "They're great, everyone at Bike Park Wales is wearing them!" sealed the Bell's fate, IXS it is!! Initially get the fit right took a while. The height adjustment can be moved so that the rear cradle sits very low on the back of the skull, which felt very uncomfortable and gave me neck ache. But it can be adjusted to sit higher, which was way better. I do find the cradle does sit just above the ears, so getting glasses to sit properly can take some playing with. The fit is great for my oval shaped head, and the adjustment is very secure. In fact I had to make a conscious effort not to wear it too tight, as it gave me a headache! It can be worn quite loose and still not fall off if you hang your head upside down with the strap undone. A bit more padding wouldn't go amiss, but it is not uncomfortable. The padding is easily removed for washing. Venting wise, the IXS is great, just as good as my old xc helmet, although the lower back of your head gets sweatier as it is covered, but that isn't an issue as it also offers more protection. I am yet to get sweat running into my eyes, even after several hot rides where it was running down my cheeks, as there is an air channel at the front which seems to reduce sweat build up in the padding on the forehead. Build quality is really good, and the additional in-mold shell coverage around the edges is a nice touch. The chin strap padding is nice but only really serves to gather the excess strap webbing, rather than act as padding, because the strap buckle sits under your chin with the padding to the side. The visor is quite big, and you can never get it completely out of your vision, but once you're riding you don't notice it. The helmet is reasonably low profile compared to some. Overall, I'm really pleased, although fit did take a while to get right to avoid pressure points. Thoroughly recommended. 09 September 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent fitting helmet Received the helmet a few days ago and very pleased with the purchase. Nice fit, good air vents and a nice build! 05 August 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by fantastic helmet with good fit options Really impressed with this helmet, I usually hate most non full facers as they never seem to fit right and are really uncomfortable, but I have to say I love this one. Really good fitting, with loads of adjustability in the rear positions (dial in the tightness, plus 3 internal positions for heigh of the section). If this is set in the wrong position it can but hugely uncomfortable, so had a bit of a shock at first, but after adjusting it is perfect now. Feels super light, a huge amount of air channels that do a great job, and are really well designed so that the air actually flows into them. The padded section on the chin strap is a nice little feature as well, as the design is one of the few that avoids the mushroom head look. Loads of coverage, and works great with riding glasses as well (although I've not tried it with goggles). Adjustable peak is a nice feature as well. Overall a superb helmet, and well worth the money. My only single complaint that stops me giving it 5 stars is the padding - or lack of. The padding is quite lacking at the top of the helmet, and is super thin throughout. Compared to my previous urge endur-o-matic (which I replaced almost immediately as it was ridiculously hot!) which had really thick and comfy padding - plus two different sizes to tailor the fit a bit more this feels much harder, and in some places seems to have no padding at all where it comes into contact with your head which isn't the most comfortable. Despite this, it is still considerably better over all than any other helmet I've used, so I'd still highly recommend it! Give this some extra padding in next years model and this could take the crown of the all mountain helmets! 05 August 2014

Rated 5 out of 5 by The perfect enduro helmet? Fits very well, loads of ventilation and didn't get to hot on long climbs when you just want to take your helmet off! Plenty of adjustment to. 10 July 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Trail Lid This helmet is built for oval heads and comes in 2 sizes which I wasn't sure about, but as I was just over 57cm I went for the s/m and i gotta say I do like it on the slightly snug side. I am really impressed with this helmet. Great ventilation, good coverage of back of head, great fitting system and strapping. I don't ride with goggles, or care much for GoPros, so can't comment on those bits. To be honest, what you're paying for is comfort, quality and style, and this helmet has it all in oodles. I will defo be looking at IXS for more equipment in the future if this helmet is an indication of their gear. 07 May 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Ok for people with narrow heads Thin pads, I like em thick;) I am 57cm and the small is to narrow for my head. So I should go to large. Straps are good and so is the lock. Not for me but it might be for you. ;) 17 April 2014

Answer:
Best to go for the larger sizing as a high helmet cannot be modified to fit; where as a slightly larger fit can have padding added to it.

Answer:
I bought the s/m size as my head is just over 57cm. It is on the slightly snug side, so if I were you I'd defo get the m/l size. Also it is an oval design, so make sure thats your head shape.

Answer:
I'm normally a 58 - which is large in nearly all helmets, but actually went for the small on this, and when you let the adjusters out (there's three internal adjustment points as well) it fit me perfectly. If you like your helmets with a lot of space inside I'd go for the large, but you SHOULD be ok with the small if the adjustment is let out.

I've been buying all my bike parts from here for years and you can always return for a free replacement if it doesn't fit.
