i bought this to replace a sram speed chain on my 8 speed spesh hardrock commuting bike, its the same chain the bike came with so of course it works great! its a lot more robust looking when compared to the sram speed chains which didnt suit my bike at all and were very skippy,

Rated 5 out of 5 by aly369 Personally the best chain I've come across on 8 speed shimano drivetrains.
I run a Shimano deore front chainset coupled with a Alivo rear mech and HG51 cassette.
I originally ran a KMC chain that was supplied with the bike when I purchased it.(It's a 2009 GT Avalanche 3.0).
Having being the initial bike noob I was, I did not replace the chain and was forced to do a complete drive train rebuild, I replaced it with a SRAM 850 or something chain, and gave me nothing but headaches. Continuously slipping with the 8th and 7th cog on the cassette and only after 3 months the chain broke completely. So I decided to go back to KMC seen as I had a good 2 years on the stock chain before it gave way. And so far its been 5 months and no problems whatsoever!

Fitted to an 8 speed Shimano drivetrain - shifts well and seems to be lasting OK. No idea yet on long term reliability.

Had to replace a very worn out Shimano chain and cassette a few weeks ago. Had to break a few links off which as one reviewer put it was tough but well worth it. Changes super smooth and really quiet as well. Think it should see me through many miles so I highly recommend this.

Проехала со старыми звездами 800 км. Думаю проехала бы еще столько же но решил менять все с 8ми скоростей на 9ть.

I was having problems shifting gears using a Shimano chain. My LBS recommended replacing the rear mech which is obviously worn but after seeing the quality of their handiwork I mistrusted them and didn't believe it was the best solution. I decided to try this chain and am not disappointed. It shifts very quickly and smoothly and has certainly got rid of the problem I was having (having to go up 2 gears then back 1 to get into correct gear). The only small difficulty I had was removing the workshop protective grease layer in order to use my favourite lube ! What is that stuff made of ? I used Citrus Degreaser 3 times, leaving it for up to 10 mins each time before rinsing and drying followed by Methylated Spirit and it still won't come off so I just lubed it up and hope for the best. I will replace the mech in time but I am saving for a new crank, bb and cassette and will replace them together with a new KMC X8 93 chain, I will get them from CRC not my LBS !

This is the general rule of thumb yes. As long as the chain speed matches your drivetrain speed it will be OK to use. This 8 speed KMC chain is a universal model and will be OK to use on nearly all 8 speed systems.
