Rated 5 out of 5 by MobeeWales Best you can get winter or summer
I only use the Salmon Pink compound of these legendary pads. Used on my old Kona Hardtail with Mavic CrossRide front rim and XC 717 rear rim combined with Avid Single Digit 7 brakes. They perform extremely well on single track and enduro trails in summer and better than anything else I have ever used in winter conditions i.e.mud, grit, soaking wet. They will stop you in all conditions if used correctly and you know your braking distances. They give me almost as much control as my Shimano XT disc brakes do on my full sus.
They are easy on the rims, wash clean without effort and last longer than you might expect (if you clean your pads and rims after every muddy ride!) Apologies for the lecture but it does make a big difference to the wear and tear and ultimately to how they perform on the trails.
Easy to fit and set up and designed to stay in the position you set them. No squeaking either as long as you know how to set them up correctly (think "toe in").
I have used a few other top brands (Avid, Shimano, even good ol' Clarks once) and these are by far my rubber of choice!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Anonymous Strong and reliable pads
these are by far the strongest pads ive ever owned on a bike. they are also by far the most difficult to install and set up beget my rear forks are slightly not as wide as others.
i bought 2 sets of the black ones purely for the fact they had none of the BMX variety for the front and rear. only the rear ones were difficult to set up but the front ones were a doddle.
i love kool stops, these have a very smooth braking surface but they are tough and durable as well.
im using them with
mavic 317 rims
shimano deore brakes
clarks prelube brake kit
on my custom hand painted, hand built black with red decal bike which i plan on putting an engine into shortly. kool stop are the best of the best if you know your going to want to stop as quick as your moving

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous Excellent pads. Using the black ones on my old front Weinmann centre pull. A little fiddly to adjust on this old type brake but give very good progressive braking without any of the grinding noises that can occur with the X pattern blocks! Appear quite rim friendly as well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous The best brakepad ever.
The salmon for wet weather is the only one I know that can brake even on a chrome steel rim you find on old French bikes.
The black rim is perfect for everyday use, it's really rim friendly.
I'd love to find the Dual Compound brake pads for V-Brakes on CRC....
