Answer:
U-Locks are fine for use in and around the town; areas in public view are your friend of course.
The Abus and Kryptonite U-locks are reliable and represent good value for money; if you wanted extra security you could go for an Oxford chain and lock, although these are considerably more weight to carry.. the length of your commute could well be the key factor.

Bike locks

I'm doing JOGLE.
I need a bike lock that is robust but light.
I realise that all locks can be broken into given enough time
What's the best lock in these circumstances?

Answer:
A flex cable would be the best option for keeping the weight down and then combined with a padlock or mini U-lock would be ideal.

A cable combination lock would be another option; all other locks would likely be too heavy for long distance riding.
