Mavic EN821 MTB Rim

The highest level of technology ever seen in a rim: ISM, UST, Fore, Maxtal. This 21mm asymmetrical rim is the perfect partner for riders looking for strong and versatil rims.

Features:

  • SUP: Stronger and smoother joint - Soudé Usiné Process. After bending, the rim joint is arc welded. The welded seam is then milled for a smooth finish.
  • FORE: Stiffer and stronger - Instead of being drilled, the lower rim bridge is pushed on the inside, then threaded to enable the spoke nipples to be directly screwed in it, leaving the upper rim bridge intact.
  • Maxtal: Light and strong Exclusive to Mavic, this specific aluminum alloy offers a higher strength to weight ratio than conventional 6106 alloy.
  • ISM: Inter Spoke Milling. Lighter rim and equal rigidity is the magic equation to reduce inertia and to free extra power for climbing.

Specifications:

  • Valve hole diameter: 6.5 mm
  • Recommended tyre widths: 2.00 to 2.50
  • Weight: 450g

Rated 4 out of 5 by 1 reviewer.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Information for recommended tire width is somewhat confusing chainreaction site, and mavic official site says recommeded tire width for this rim is 2.00~2.50...and that's the main reason I bought a pair... but the label on the rim itself says 1.1~2.3.... so which one is right? My newly purchased tires are 2.4....so I think I am ok with anycase... but still want to know the correct information. 04 March 2014

Is the weight for a 29" rim really 450g?

Hi, I am wondering what the weight is for the 29inch version of the Mavic EN821 mtb rim.

1) The weight listed is 450g, is this for 26" or 29" rim? (surely they can't be the same!)
2) Does the weight include the UST nipple cups or is the weight "rim only"?

Thanks!

Answer:
The 29" rim weighs in on our office scales at 490g (not including the eyelets or valve, which together add another 60g or so)

Please let me know what nipples I need to purchase to build this rim. I have Chris King MTB Disc hubs. Also is this a disk rim as CRC normally mention it in the description or title.

Thanks

Answer:
The EN821 rim is a disc compatible rim, yes. Mavic suggest using 16mm nipples, but standard 14mm nipples work fine as well. Our DT Swiss spokes are supplied with a set of corresponding nipples (link below)
