Mavic EX823 Disc Rim UST

Featuring Mavic's most innovative technologies, such as SUP welding and Fore Drilling, EX 823 Disc is the only true UST rim available for downhillers and freeriders. Ridden by the most talented and aggressive of them, it has proven to be strong enough to withstand the worst abuses.

Features:

  • Maxtal
  • SUP
  • FORE
  • Aluminium threaded eyelets (supplied with the rim)
  • UST
  • Disc

Dimensions:

  • ETRTO compatible size: 559 x 23
  • Recommended tire widths: 2.30 to 3.00
  • Valve hole diameter: 6.5 mm
  • Recommended nipple length: 16 mm
  • Do not use any rim tape
  • Weight: 655g

Technologies:

  • Maxtal: Exclusive to Mavic. An aluminium alloy that is 30% more resistant than a 6106 alloy, for lighter and stronger rims.
  • Fore: Only one of the 2 rim wall is "drilled": - the rim is 4 times more resistant to fatigue stress - 20% increase in the rim rigidity to transfer all of your energy to the ground.
  • SUP: Soudé Usiné Process. After bending, the rim joint is arc welded. The welded seam is then milled for a smooth finish. A welded and milled rim joint is extremely strong, eliminates shuddering when braking, and offers superior wheel balance.

Rated 5 out of 5 by BEST DH rim for tubeless setup period I Bend rims for living. Soft wheels, flat spots where common thing for me before. Since the EX823 came out everything changed. Rated 5 out of 5 by best dh rim I personally have always used Mavic rims, if you are after UST, just grab one of these, and you will be fine 04 February 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Serious Price isn't friendly but its the Best DH rim out, I use them for Street MTB and give them a REAL hammering, some off road too. Still stayed perfectly true after 8 months of abuse. Had them laced to hope pro 2's by CRC they done a good job. They work well with Schwalbe Furious Freds which is perfect for the street. The finish is amazing still looks the same as when I bought it as long as you keep it clean, as well as the performance. Looks good without added decals just make sure you line up the tyre decals with the rim decal. Both came promtply and well built. thanks CRC 01 June 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Built to Last Lasted me a season in whistler with no issues what so ever - need I say more?!!! 03 July 2012

Answer:
As far as I am aware there is no technical difference between the 2013 and 2014 rim.

Our stock is updated daily so unfortunately I cannot provide a definitive time scale for when the 2014 rim will arrive with us.

Answer:
Geoff, I haven't heard anything about product revisions or a 2014 version either. In any case, I wouldn't let it trouble you as these are brilliant rims, they look the biz and are built to last. I'm using 2 wheelsets built up around these rims and unless you can stretch to Deemax Ultimates these are quite possibly the next best thing! Highly recommended.

Answer:
You will need a tubeless valve to run without tubes, remember these rims are drilled for the narrow Presta valves only. No need to use a rim tape. These are top quality and bulletproof, they'll still spin true after hard use (I got 2 wheelsets built around these rims). For hubs, these rims pair-up brilliantly with Hope Pro 2 Evos.

Answer:
These rims can be run tubeless with UST tyres or with a tube and standard tyres. I'm running a set of these rims on my freeride bike with non-UST minions and the 1.2mm thick freeride tube from maxxis. So yeah, feel free to use your tubes, they will work fine with the EX823's..
