Maxxis Ardent MTB Tyre

The Maxxis Ardent 26" MTB Folding Tyre comes with a aggressive tread in high-volume casing, designed with great traction in mind. The Ardent doesn’t forget the racer, with large block-style side knobs offering numerous edges for high-speed cornering. The center tread, while ideal for braking and accelerating traction, also features ramped knobs to minimize rolling resistance. With a wide variety of size offerings, the Ardent captures every mountain rider’s needs.

Features:

  • Foldable Bead - Foldable beads also keep the tire secured to the rim but are lighter weight and easily transported. The bead is made of spun aramid or Kevlar® fibers.

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 33 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Tyre I have this in 29x2.25 on the front wheel and cannot find a bad thing to say. I ride all mountain, xc and trail centre, usually very, very rocky and this tyre stands up well. Wet or dry the grip is great. It's tough and has taken a fair amount of abuse and is still in great condition. Hardly worn at all after 2 years! My friend asked if it was new a few weeks ago! I have riden in extremely muddy conditions too and they were fine. I also lean into corners and have had none of the grip issues described in other reviews. 26 September 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great tyre fast rolling super grip cannot find this vague spot other people mention when cornering ? 19 September 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great set of tyres Great tyre, does the job well. Got them on the front and the back. 2.25 26 August 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Не тот Ardent который я ожидал Это не даунхильная 2ply версия Ардента, а модель Ardent+EXO. Всё бы ничего, но эта покрышка в России стоит на 15$ дешевле! Обидно:) 18 July 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Brilliant With the amount of pinch flats I've been getting on my stock tyres I needed a change. I went with the 2.4 to give me more confidence and traction. Nothing beats these. Not worried about speed but I still get plenty anyway. Get them, you wont be disappointed. 07 July 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by good tire but no lean-angle traction Tire rolls quite smooth and fast, especially at 23psi on the 2.4 by 29, but every time i lean this tire hard into corners it slips out from under me. I don't see where the fuss is about with how good this tire is, at least traction wise. The quality of this tire is solid and it brakes and rolls well and great for cross country or around town with low rolling resistance but don't lean hard into any corners with them. 02 July 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Only good in a straight line These tyres provide decent grip on rocky/dry conditions, and are tolerable in damper conditions. However, when things get muddy, they will totally give up on you and slide out everywhere. Then we come to the real problem: YOU CANNOT CORNER ON THESE TYRES. As soon as you start leaning, there is absolutely no grip or support from the tyre. I believe this is mainly caused by the awkward knob configuration, where the actual tread is clustered on the top of the tyre, rather than spread out on the edges as well. I used them on my DH bike, and I would NOT recommend them at all if you're an aggressive rider who likes to corner hard. The bottom line is: Don't buy these tyres. Get some high rollers instead, which are totally fantastic in almost all conditions. 30 June 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by great front tyre great tyre up front here in the perth hills. has good traction on loose dry gravel and sand 19 June 2014

Answer:

Answer:
The numbers refer to the softness or tackiness of the rubber compound. The lower number, the softer the rubber.

A 60a is an intermediate compound which will grant decent traction in most dry to damp trail conditions; slippy rocks and roots will need to be approached with care.

A 70a is a relatively hard compound which is great for carrying speed in dry conditions but will not provide optimum traction when the trail gets wet and slippy (rocks, roots etc).
