Maxxis Crossmark Wire Tyre Specifications:

  • Fast rolling center ridge.
  • Raised side knobs for better cornering
  • Size: 26x2.25
  • TPI: 60

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 49 reviewers.
14 April 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Nice tires but not as pictured These appear to be the type of tire that I need and the price was fair. However, the tire I received was NOT the tire represented in the picture. My tire came with BRIGHT yellow lettering on the sidewall. If I had known that I would have never ordered these. 22 March 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by its a ok tyre. It has a lot more drag than the continental race king, and let's go with less warning 12 March 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by 28 October 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great tyre !! This tyre is great on just about every surface except mud.Rolls fantastically on tarmac which is great if your off road riding is linked by road sections. 01 September 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great all-round MTB tyre Ive used these tyres on my hardtail MTB for a few years. They roll fast, and had good grip if your not riding muddy terrain. They grip rock and loose gravel well, and I even commute on them too. 06 August 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by great tire great tyre, that solid ridge gives awesome rolling speed. i ride my hardtail bike to uni and i take it off road on the weekends, works perfect of both! just drop the PSI and im cuttin trails. it does throw up small rocks though on gravel, if that bothers you, it awesome other wise! great price great tyre 12 April 2013

Answer:
If you are spending most of your time on roads and hard paths then you want a thinner width tyre as this will have less rolling resistance and roll faster. So the likes of the 1.95 would be a good width. As for the 60a or 70 it's to do with the hardness of the rubber - a lower number will be softer - which will grip better, but wear out faster. A higher number will be a harder compound - less grip in certain situations, but more durable. So depends on when you will be using the tyres but i would normally go for the 60a this time of the years with the wet and cold.

Answer:
These are the tyre rubber compounds that Maxxis use:

70a is a hard compound. Fast rolling but with little grip.

Maxxpro is 60a and is a good compromise between 70a and 42a.

Exception is 62a so very similar to Maxxpro but with extra sidewall protection.

Super Tacky is 42a - very grippy, but slow and wears super fast

Slow Reezay is 40a, It's a very, very soft compound designed for DH racing in the wet
