Maxxis Ikon XC Tyre

The Ikon is for true racers looking for a true lightweight race tire. With high-volume casing and a fast rolling tread design, the Ikon provides exemplary performance in all riding conditions. As its name suggests, the Ikon represents all that is true in racing.

EXC - The number of threads that cross through one square inch of a single ply of the tire’s casing. Lower TPI gives better puncture, cut and abrasion resistance but is heavier. Higher TPI conforms better to the terrain.

Rated 3.5 out of 5 by 2 reviewers.
Rated 3 out of 5 by Surprisingly tasty mains but with paper pudding Great tires super grippy in all conditions including silly mud, superb rolling resistance. I've a couple of gripes through. The sidewall are like paper it takes nothing to rip them. Secondly I dont understand why they're not available in tubeless, even though I run them as tubeless. Why Mr. Maxxis, why? 17 August 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great tyre but beware non-exo sidewalls I've been running a set of the exception (Non EXO) series Ikons for a few months now, trail and singletrack. I've been very impressed with the behavior of these tyres in all conditions (Hardpack, loose, sand and mud), even considering the unusually wet summer we've had in Sydney this year. That said, i was planning to use these tyres in the upcoming races, however a little rocky singletrack has taken it's toll on the flimsy lightweight sidewalls of the back tyre. I'd seen the scuffs through the rubber on the back sidewall after only a few rides, but only just now noticed the herniated tube poking through. The front hasn't taken quite the same pounding as the back fortunately. These tyres have around 500km on them, and hardly any treadwear. I can be fairly hard on my rear tyres, however i've never had a sidewall damage as easily as these. Previous tyres for comparison are; Kenda Nevegal John Tomac (These took some damage, but survived), Maxxis Crossmarks (Wire), Specialized the captain (Wire). I like these tyres, so at this stage i'm planning to swap out the rear for an EXO model, with the stronger sidewalls and see how that holds out. 19 April 2012
