The XCG Series of guards are designed to protect chainrings and cranks from damage due to the occasional rock or log encounter. They consist of a replaceable polycarbonate Skid direct-mounted to a 4mm thick alloy back plate. With an XCG Triple, you can keep the big chainring on and not worry about damaging it on obstacles. The XCG Triple is lightweight, and costs a lot less than replacing a high quality 44T ring, so it's a great accessory for the fast and technically aggressive XC rider or for any rider looking to protect their investment. It also has an upper chain-saver section to prevent the chain from falling off towards the inside.
The XCG Triple is easy to install on the vast majority of XC frames and add no rotational weight to the drivetrain.
• Protects triple crank outer rings up to 44T • Raised upper profile catches chain from inboard drops • Bottom-bracket mount or ISCG • Weight - 120g

After having spent almost £75 on 3 replacement 44t outer rings in the matter of 5 months, I thought it would be a good idea to get one of these. It's incredibly robust and is just the job to protect the large ring.
I have a 2011 Stumpjumper EVO with ISCG 05 mounting option. The guard went on without a problem and did not interfere with any other working parts. I did have to slightly bend it away from the chainline of the smallest ring, but that took a matter of seconds and is the minutest of changes.
Bear in mind that as you look at the picture, you are looking at the rear of the guard. The 'mrp' is seen from the non drive side of the bike.
Also, I expected the white as seen in the photo, but got a black with white mrp which I preferred.
I would highly recommend this if you have a low bb and run a triple chainset.

on my fuel ex the iso mount sits close to the iner ring. over bumpy terrain the chain can hop off the small ring and get caught on the iso mount, im guessing this will sit it place and stop the chain failling under my bb ?

For those of you who dont want to replace the outer chainring with a bash guard this is the answer. It doesn't add that much weight to the rig, potects the teeth on the chainring and the bottom bracket area, easy enough to fit, and looks sweet!

Light, Strong, Fits perfect on my 575 XTR setup and the best part, have not lost a chain in 6 months since installing this! It has a riser part stops your chain from falling inboard to the BB...Perfect for AM/XC bikes that dont want a heavy chain guide and are not willing to sacrifice the big ring!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous does exactly what it says on the tin, well lable. if you run a tripple ring set up then this is the perfect thing to protect your outer ring.. weigh next to nothing,. easy to install,. be sure you tighten the bb up prperly, my bashguard moved under impact and was rubbing on the chain, easily fixed.. not happened since i tightend it up...

Rated 4 out of 5 by Anonymous Great idea but mods required
Just fitted one of these to my 08 Enduro and the guard looks pretty sturdy though i haven't tested it yet. One thing to be aware of tho' is that for this bike (and for commencal 55, trek remedy at least from what I've been reading) you will need to be ready to modify the shape to provide the necessary clearence for the rear suspension. In my case the direct mount front derailleur was obstructed when the suspension compressed until i removed about 1cm off the chain gauard......

Unfortunately the Giant Anthem cannot mount any sort of bashguard to the frame. It has no ISCG mounts and the Press-Fit bottom bracket shell is not compatible with BB mount guides. The only way to run a bashguard with the Anthem is to drop the outer chainring and use a crank mounted guard. This will will need a whole drivetrain setup change.
