Northwave Celsius Arctic GTX MTB Cycling Boots

The Artic version of the Celsius model is made with a water-repellent, breathable material with superior heat insulation that will protect the foot even in extreme conditions. Studies have shown that cycling fast leads to a noticeable loss of heat, So we need to guarantee a level of warmth that is much higher than the temperature outside.

Features:

  • Carbon reinforced sole: A sole made of thermoplastic material enriched with carbon powder that thanks to its peculiar shape guarantees a high degree of rigidity while staying lightweight. The front end of the sole is divided into two parts: a mid-sole in fibre with added carbon powder and a outsole. The natural rubber rear part had been designed to ensure maximum grip also during descents.
  • Gore-Tex membrane upper: The first bike Gore-Tex® shoes launched exclusively by Northwave guarantees all-out water protection combined with excellent breathability. All this means top comfort feel on the move with all weather condition. The microclimate created inside the shoe makes you confront the longest trips out without fatiguing or overheating your feet. Northwave and WL Gore winning partners when you’re on the attack.
  • Superlace system closure system and front velcro strap: Speed Lace System is a fast and functional closing system, for a perfect hold on the foot. Just pull the cord and push the mechanism downwards, automatically locking the lacing in place. It is easy to release simply by pressing on the lever and pulling the mechanism upwards.
  • Ultra Y heel: This new design of heel was developed by Northwave’s R and D department, which devised a component with an exceptionally high technical level that guarantees excellent heel retention with a particular low weight. The special Y shape embraces the heel comfortably and holds it in its natural position.
  • Special GTX footbed.

Rated 4.2 out of 5 by 10 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect winter boot I've had these for a good 18 months now, they have been used in snow, ice, torrential down pours, i've walked through 2 inch streams of water and been up to my knees in mud and they have been amazing. The pull cord is far too long and needs cutting from day 1. I have bought a second pair for commuting and I would buy again without question. I know you pay for goretex but £150 is a bit steep, i paid £110 and that's the max I'd want to spend on them. 25 April 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent winter riding boots for cold climate I've used this pair on my commutes during last winter in temperatures ranging from +5..-25 C. My usual shoe size is 42 and I ordered these in 43. I wear a single pair of socks and the size has been spot on. They have worked very well in rain, mud, snow and extreme temperatures. I feel that the closing system (quick lacing) doesn't give as good support as the straps in my summer shoes, but otherwise they are very sturdy. 27 March 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Buenísima compra Una gran compra y a un precio inmejorable, no era capaz de encontrar el mismo precio para este artículo por ningún sitio 03 March 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good but not great I struggled between choosing 3 stars or 4 for these shoes. I go with 4 because they are a solid, well made product and my expectations of cold performance may be higher than the average person. I recently switched to these from a pair of LAKE Winter shoes that I had been using for almost ten years and while they are not bad shoes I was expecting more at this price level. I ride year round in Calgary, Alberta where the mercury will frequently get down to -20C with windchills going anywhere down to -40C on extreme days. I find that these shoes are good down to about -15C and then they start to get cold. I wear two pairs of socks (make sure you order these larger than your normal size to accomodate this!), including a pair of the highly rated Seal Skinz and I know that below -20C I will have to add over boot wind / rain covers to keep the cold out. This from someone who has good circulation and doesn't normally feel the cold as much as others. The product is well constructed and definitely a quality item but there is one small design flaw that niggles at me. On the neck of the shoe is a draw string that you pull tight after doing up the velcro straps. First of all I worry how long this will hold up and second I found that once pulled tight you have a lot of string left over to find a home for. I tuck it into my sock which isn't the most comfortable and more than once now this string has come loose and caught in the peddles wgile riding. Not sure what they were thinking. Overall a well made shoe that will provide solid warmth down to about -15C with good socks. 31 January 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Ok but not worth the price tag Bought these to replace my MW80s which were always to tight across the front of the foot. So did my research and picked these up. They have a good feel and do feel better quality and warmth that the MW's BUT the lace and velcro do not hold your foot in as well as a ratchet type fastener. So rubs on the heal. Was hoping these would be ok for a day out in the mountain, but with the risk of blisters they will just be used locally. Not good for the money. 04 October 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by excellent product always suffered with cold feet until i brought these.now only need one pair of socks in sub zero temps been down -6. very waterproof 2 hours plus of riding in downpoor has proved it 09 February 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Good boot, but not that warm I picked up a pair of these towards the end of Autumn last year. The fastening system, although unique does work well and so far they have proven water proof, but of course it hasn't been that wet over the last year. These boots have not lived up to the "Arctic" Rating as I do get seriously cold toes on 1hr+ rides if and when the temp is low single degrees (C). In a hard frost, the cold sets in even quicker. This, whilst riding with two pairs of socks on (one normal and one thermal). I have not tried with Sealskin tyep socks, but didn't really expect to have to wear £30+ socks with winter boots. 25 January 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by warm, waterproof Love these boots, I use them on the road. No more booties to fight with, just put these and you're good to go. No more cold feet. Warm and waterproof, convenient. 07 January 2012

Answer:
These particular boots would be suitable to use with both flat and SPD pedals. They have a grippy sole for flat pedals and also have an insert for an SPD cleat if you wished to use them with clipless pedals.
