Northwave Fahrenheit GTX Boots 2011

Thermic Insulated Construction is a new construction system used to provide performance for the Celsius and guarantees:
  • Maximum thermal insulation in the upper part of the collar and the area where the shoe connects with the pedal. The insulating material that completely covers the holes of the plate offers better heat protection for
  • the lower part of the foot.
  • Better protection against the rain, particularly on the upper part of the shoe. The material can also be easily washed after cycling in muddy conditions.
  • Footwear with unbeatable breathability

Features:

  • NGG Carbon Reinforced Sole: Nylon filled with fiber glass and enriched with carbon powder that gives the sole greater stiffness than usual. This allows reduced weight and a closer distance between feet and pedal.
  • Gore-Tex membrane upper: The first bike Gore-Tex® shoes launched exclusively by Northwave guarantees all-out water protection combined with excellent breathability. All this means top comfort feel on the move with all weather condition. The microclimate created inside the shoe makes you confront the longest trips out without fatiguing or overheating your feet. Northwave and WL Gore winning partners when you’re on the attack.
  • Closing System: SLS System Velcro: Speed Lace System is a fast and functional closing system, for a perfect hold on the foot. Just pull the cord and push the mechanism downwards, automatically locking the lacing in place. It is easy to release simply by pressing on the lever and pulling the mechanism upwards.
  • Ultra Y heel: This new design of heel was developed by Northwave’s R and D department, which devised a component with an exceptionally high technical level that guarantees excellent heel retention with a particular low weight. The special Y shape embraces the heel comfortably and holds it in its natural position.
  • Special GTX footbed

Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 13 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Very very warm but restrictive around the ankle I really suffer from cold feet. I previously wore the thickest socks I could find, leg warmers on top of full length bibs and 2 over shoes and still got cold feet riding at 0 degrees for more than an hour. These shoes are fantastic at keeping your feet warm and have made my winter rides far more enjoyable. I still use an overshoe if it is below 0. These shoes are quite bulky and feel restrictive around my ankle, but it probably depends how much ankle flex you have in your pedal stroke. 20 August 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by only suitable for the cold I have big feet and Northwave do large sizes upto Euro 49 I have my shoe for about a year and my only real complaint is no sizes in the UK scale, where I am around a 12 1/2 to 13 I took these boots around the new forest in freezing conditions and my feet did not get cold, I also went through freezing cold water and my feet stayed dry. I have been out on bike in the wet and my feet did get wet, this was because my bike does not have mud guards and the water ran down my legs, rather than the water penetrating the shoe. My only real complaint about the boot is the lack of grip on wet concrete and the fact they are too hot above 60 degrees F. 15 June 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Northwave Fehrenheit GTX Boots These boots are very well made but just didn't fit my foot shape. Also while they appeared to be a good idea I believe my feet will be warmer and possibly drier (if such a thing is possible during long wet winter rides!) wearing good quality overshoe on top of my regular road shoes. 04 February 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Northwave Fahrenheit GTX Boots After 45 minutes of first ride with these shoes in the rain today both my feet were completely drenched in water.Save yourself the cost of these and do not buy!!!!!!!!!!! 16 October 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Brilliant A must have for winter riding, warm, waterproof and comfortable. Love these boots. 11 February 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by I suffer from cold toes once the temperature gets below 5C. These boots are a big improvement on ordinary road shoes with overshoes. In fact I wear them with overshoes as well for extra warmth. The size is generous. I bought my normal size and I'm able to wear two pairs of thick socks with them. They aren't too great at keeping out rain. What happens is that water runs down my legs and into the boots. This happens especially if I'm wearing waterproof bib-tights. The problem is that the boots are rather chunky round the ankle area, so it's difficult to get bib-tights which go over the boots. I've one pair with a zipper in the ankle area and they work fine. Otherwise I use a pair of very tight waterproof overshoes. 07 December 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by BEST BOOTS EVER I HAVE BOUGHT MANY ITEMS FROM CRC AND THESE BABIES ARE TOP OF THE LIST - WARM AND DRY FEET EVERY TIME ;O) 22 February 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Comfy & Warm, But... I wore these for the first time yesterday and found them to be really comfortable and kept my feet warm, and whilst when it started raining they kept my feet dry, the last 10 miles of my ride were in torrential rain, and by the time I got home my feet, and the inside of the boots were completely drenched (as was the rest of me!) This was, I think due to water running down my legs and down the tops of the boot. So whilst the Goretex membrane works, you'd need some way of stop water getting in the top for them to be completely waterproof. The side to side adjustment of the cleat mountings is a nice touch, the boots are quite chunky and I noticed yesterday that with my cleats in the normal centre position they had rubbed against my cranks. So moving the cleats out slightly to allow for the width of the boots should solve this problem. Overall, I'm happy with the boots as yesterdays weather was hardly typical. 19 February 2012

Answer:
The staff answer is incorrect, the "Fahrenheit" models are the road version of the shoes. They have a 3 bolt sole that takes Look cleats etc.

The alternative mountain bike version is called "Celsius" and that takes a 2 bolt SPD type cleat.

You can also tell by looking at the tread, the road version being smooth.

A salesman in a LBS told me I would have to use an adaptor to use Shimano Road Cleats but the 3 bolt attachment on the sole seems the same?
