Nukeproof Scalp DH Suspension Bike

Nukeproof Scalp – Take your trophies from battle Taking its name from the legendary downhill track at Moneyscalp Wood in Co. Down, the Nukeproof Scalp is our original DH race rig offering 209mm of progressive rear travel via a pull-link driven single-pivot suspension system. For 2013 we offer the World Cup-proven frame as a complete bike offering unparalleled value for the weekend competitor, with a tried and tested parts package and great upgrade potential Featuring triple-butted hydroformed tubing and our three-stage Fallout Link suspension system, the Scalp frame is matched with proven RockShox suspension front and rear plus SRAM transmission, Avid Elixir 3 brakes and quality

T6 6061 aluminium frame with Fallout Linkage suspension

Built using T6 6061 aluminium with triple-butted hydroformed tubing for a perfectly balanced strength to weight combination, the Scalp is a slack and low-slung gravity sled built for the steepest, most technical and most challenging race runs. Using a single-pivot suspension configuration with a unified rear triangle for optimum strength and stiffness, the Scalp’s pull-link driven Fallout Linkage drives the shock in a three-stage progressive action - progressive throughout, with increasing progression at the beginning and end of the stroke, but a linearly progressive midstroke to avoid any spikes in damping. Boasting a super-slack 63-degree head angle, 47.12” wheelbase and 14” static BB height (medium size) the Scalp is characterised by its centrally-positioned shock and linkage system to keep the centre of gravity low and handling sweet. Rear hub spacing is standard 150mm while BB shell width is 83mm; the 1.5in headtube will cater for OS 1.5in steerer forks, standard 1 1/8in or tapered steerers.

Tough and reliable parts package

For the 2013 Nukeproof Scalp we sought out a components list that boosted the value on offer to the rider without any compromise in performance on the hill. Rear suspension duties are courtesy of the RockShox Kage RC coil shock with adjustable preload and compression, while new RockShox Domain Dual Crown R coil forks deliver 200mm of travel in a tough package that’s built for long-term durability and all-conditions thrashing. The Scalp features dependable SRAM transmission and Gravity Step Up chainset, while a Prime Aero chainguide offers security and protection over the gnarliest of terrain. Avid Elixir 3 hydraulic disc brakes with 200mm rotors front and rear deliver consistent, fade-free braking in all wet or dry.

Nukeproof Finishing Kit

Finishing kit on the Nukeproof Scalp comes courtesy of our own tried and tested Warhead series of components. Our Nukeproof Generator wheelset offers race-light speed and bombproof durability for the fastest of courses and the hardest of hits, with Maxxis High Roller II tyres delivering confidence-inspiring grip and tenacity in all conditions. Our Warhead headset, 760mm riser bars, Direct Mount stem and Element lock-on grips combine for a no-nonsense cockpit delivering confidence and control from first turn to finish line, while the package is rounded out with our Warhead seatpost and Nukeproof Race Scalp edition saddle. Proven through two seasons of World Cup action with the riders of Team CRC/Nukeproof, the Scalp is a race-bred speed machine within the reach of all riders.

Rated 5 out of 5 by excellent and well worth the money The discount for the chips in the frame is more than commendable of CRC especially on a DH bike, exactly as described and what a bike. 08 October 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by 2012 scalp CCDB Own the 2012 scalp with CCDB. Bike was great, very comfortable when riding. With the CCDB on, riding down the rocky hills was excellent. Bike feels very smooth and don't really feels the bumpiness. Bike control was great when landing on jumps. A very confident bike to ride for beginners and pros. 17 June 2013

Answer:
Whatever the size guide recommends (you must take into account your inside leg measurement in addition to your height - we're not all built the same!), choose a size lower than the recommended size for a MTB. The guide is fine for road use but you will almost certainly find the recommended size of frame frustratingly un-nimble out on a trail.

Sizing chart states for height 5'10" frame size should be 43-46cm (17"-18") but you only have 3 size options listed; 39cm (15.5"), 40cm (15.75"), 42cm (16.5"). I assume these are Small, Medium, and Large?

Answer:
Because this is a downhill bike, the frame sizes run smaller. For your height, go down two-to-three sizes smaller than the chart's suggestion. For example, I'm 6'4" so most charts recommend 20"-22" frame size; this is fine for road riding, but on a dual suspension XC/AM I need 18"-19", and on the Scalp DH I'd be looking at 16.5".
