For 2013 we’ve redesigned our reservoir and significantly updated most of our hydration packs. The new Hydraulics™ Reservoir builds on the successful concepts behind the first generation. Entirely designed and manufactured by Osprey, be assured we looked at every piece of the product in the search for improvements. Nothing was ignored.
When we first endeavored to bring a hydration reservoir to market, we knew it had to be groundbreaking in all respects – carrying water should never compromise fit, comfort or stability in a pack. The Osprey Hydraulics™ reservoir is now entirely designed and manufactured by Osprey, carrying forward key innovations while offering major improvement to many features. Combined with excellent reservoir-to-pack integration, superior technical features and the best gender specific pack-to-body fit and performance available, our hands free hydration program takes another giant leap. We are also proud to introduce Osprey Hydraulics™ Cleaning Tablets - all natural, biodegradable and chlorine free.

Osprey Hydraulics 3L Reservoir System Tecnologies:
New MPE film provides taste-free qualities of polyethylene with the added benefit of extra strength over typical PE films. The “M” in MPE stands for metallocene, a special catalyst used in the manufacture of the PE resin. It forms a PE that is more consistent and even in structure, resulting in greater strength and resiliency, making it ideal for reservoirs. This added durability allows it to handle hot water. It is BPA & PVC free, of course.
New HydroStatic™ backer plate creates a wider and lower profile. A traditional reservoir barrels out and forms a straight tube when filled, interfering with a pack’s ability to fit the body. The HydroStatic™ plate shapes the reservoir to ensure pack fit is preserved for optimal stability and comfort.

Rated 4 out of 5 by tob1 Best Bladder I have used.
After some Bladders with leaking mouthpiece which were expensive to change,
I had no Problems with it, despite me biting a hole in the mouth-piece.
Especialy when you store it in the fridge, you have a hard time to close it properly.
But 20s hassle aren't that bad when you consider it isn't leaking at all !

The only improvments over the original Nalgene version is the bite valve turns up towards the hose to close (mitigating the things/dirt it touches in transit), and possibly has shed some weight. This new version has leaked from day one, both out the top (lid) and bottom hose connection. In the process of seeking warranty support from CRC, but would not recommend the bladder at all. The packs are great, but Osprey needs to address this issue.

The bladder leaked through the seams after 30-40 uses. Osprey said they would not replace it since it was two months outside the warranty period. Very poor product and dreadful customer service from Osprey

Bought the new bladder as i couldn't get new bite valves as the diameter has changed. Not as good as the previous nalgene bladder. Seems like they have gone in house to make more money but quality does not seem as good. Bite valves still poor mine only seem to last couple of months before they start leaking.

After a couple of years of being very impressed with Osprey packs, this is a complete disappointment. It does not fit particularly well into bags designed for the previous reservoir system. It is difficult to align the cap when screwing it on, with it often feeling tightened when it is not sealed. Admittedly after making this mistake once with messy consequences, I take a lot more care, but I don't appreciate wrestling with the cap to ensure a proper fit. After only 3 weeks of use the blue plastic loop that holds the cap onto the reservoir no longer freely rotates making screwing all but impossible with the only solution being to cut the loop off.
