I'm am so happy I went with a bench mounted stand. The stability is 10 out of 10. It is very easy to use. The clamp works as intended, although using the seat post seems to be the best option. This is because most carbon frames aren't round so the surface contact area is much smaller. I suspect it may mark the frame. I can't say if the more expensive ones are better, but I suspect not as the clamps looks similar and most frames are different. It is inconvenient to have to turn the bike around to work on both sides - but I'm splitting hairs to complain about that. You need a good stable bench, at the right height, or else don't bother. I generally will let the rear adjuster loose so the front wheel drops to the ground, then tighten. This adds stability and balances the weight better.
