There are various ways to wear a back protector; this is the option that gives you the greatest flexibility and freedom of movement. Choose how to wear it, with or without the removable waistband.
Our VPD back protector outperform the EN 1621-2 standard Level 1 (18kN) reaching the higher Level 2 requirements (9kN). Still many CE approved protection systems have a relatively static impact absorption curve and are constructed to just pass the specific CE-Norm test. This means that low energy impacts are transferred almost directly to the body. Our VPD back protector does not only exceed the required shock absorbance CE-values, it also releases the energy gradually so the spine will not be exposed to any force peaks.
Extra layer of high density Visco-Elastic Polymer Dough (VPD)in spinal area for maximum protection
Low density VPD for flexibility

I have to say I am a little disappointed with this item. The protector itself is excellent and once warm is very flexible. It doesn't get too hot even under a rucksack. What is poor is the fit of the vest. I am 6ft 2 and 95kgs so I went for the large, The protector is the correct lenth but the vest over the shoulders and chest is too baggy this leads to the protector hanging off your back and slipping around which is rather annoying. I have been using the belt to keep it in place but the belt gets very hot and restricts your breathing enough to be noticiable but not enough to get really annoying - if you have a waist strap on your rucksack this should hold the protector in place and you can remove the strap. Due to the looseness of the vest the protector tends to ride up this means that when you need the protection i.e going down something you get jabbed in the back of the head - the steeper the descent the more annoying this becomes. If you purchased the optional protection for the top and bottom of the protector you will be disappointed as they don't 'snap on' rather flap about on velcro. In summary the spine protector is great but the vest sizing is rubbish, I think the medium would have suited me better and I probably should have gone for the slim fit as well - time to get the sewing machine out! The protector with the straps is probably a better option.
