Pro-Lite TheOne Mini Race Bike

Cycling is an excellent sport for all ages; however modern high performance bicycles are not designed to accommodate children’s body proportions and small size. To date no brand or supplier has been able to replicate the real race geometry into a children’s bike due to the fact that everything is designed for adult bikes.

Pro-Lite developed TheOne in 650c and 24” wheel size in response to the requests from the Italian Cycling Federation to meet the need for a true high performance road racing bicycle for use by the up and coming young riders. Riders as young as six can now ride competition level road bikes. In the Dutch Bike Motion a 4 year old boy was presented with a 24” wheel version by his parents.

The custom handmade wheels are smaller 650c or 24” in size, with the frame proportions adjusted to allow comfortable reach to the handlebars and achieve a low stand over height.

The handlebars are specially made so that children’s smaller hands can safely and comfortably operate the brakes and shifters. The gear shifters are in a traditional position on the down tube on the 24” version with the option for integrated brake and shifter system on the handlebars, while the slightly larger 650c version uses the contemporary integrated brake levers and shifters on the handlebars.

Gear shifting is accomplished by a full Shimano drive train, while the crank set is specially made with shorter crank arms and offset to ensure safety, smooth shifting, efficiency and comfortable use by children.

The frames are made from the custom made Pro-Lite PBS tubing in the Pro-Lite factory in Taiwan that ensures that this frame is as light as possible and that it delivers on its road racing promise.

The Pro-Lite TheOne children’s road racing bicycle is used by cycling federations worldwide to develop the next generation of champions.

Rated 3.6 out of 5 by 5 reviewers.
Rated 1 out of 5 by Expensive for what you get It is expensive at several hundred dollars more than similarly equipped 700c sized bikes. I picked this bike due to lack of alternatives in 650c roadbikes. Issues out of the box included - The rear quick release was severely over-torqued. Needed to use a wrench to release the quick release handle - The rear free-wheel had to be repacked as it made strange noises out of the box - The rims were not well manufactured. The weld joint on the both rims do not properly lined up - The welding on the frame seems "agricultural". Definitely not what one would expect of a bike at this price. Can't really tell the quality of the welds short of x-raying the joints. - Bar tape needed to be re-taped to secure, as the tape was slightly loose out of the box Also, please note that the bike out of the box is not tuned. - Drive-train needs to be adjusted - Brake calipers need to be aligned - Some nuts and bolts needed to either be tightened or loosen (over torqued out of the box) The bike is also poorly packaged. This is the 4th bike I have purchased in the last 2 years and shipped, but 1st from CRC. The previous 3 purchases from other shops were very securely packed and protected, with the cardboard box reinforced internally to ensure rigidity for transport . This bike was hardly secured inside the cardboard box. The box was not reinforced internally in any way and upon arrival was so damaged that the bike and everything inside literally fell out of the bottom of the box. From the condition my packaged arrived in I can see how the previous comment regarding the bike being severely scratched with wheel bent upon arrival could happen. Lastly, there is "just" enough room to fit a full sized drinking bottle without modifications to the bottle cage. 09 December 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Daughter delighted! I bought the 650c for my 12 year-old daughter and the 24" for my 8 year-old son. Both bikes come in surprisingly boxes. You need to fit front wheel, saddle, pedals, handlebars and cable into front brake. Mine arrived with damaged front tyre & tube so I had to get new ones from very good LBS. New 650cx23 scraped on front brake, and when I swapped tyres front to back the original tyre only cleared the callipers when I adjusted them close to the rim. This minor annoyance sorted, my daughter was off riding and loved it immediately. (CRC did compensate for the tyre and I have since sourced a 650cx20 tyre to try on the front). Frame and wheels seem good quality. I have changed the pedals. A standard water bottle does fit into the frame but is difficult to put in and take out so there's no drinking while riding. (Though there should be more room than the 24" there isn't because the bolt holes seem higher than they need to be for crank clearance.) Both children are enjoying the road bike experience and finding the bikes comfortable. Next step is the first decent hill climb. 07 September 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great racing bike for kids Bought for 9 year old daughter (plenty of growing room). A beautifully made bike, black and white colours are striking. Gives a smooth ride, accelerates quickly, fairly light, climbs and descends well, makes a very good racer. Standard compact crank allows gearing to be easily changed to meet racing regulations. Bottle cage positioning is tight but then again it is a child’s racer and sized accordingly. Buying a bottle cage with appropriately positioned screw holes allows for the use of a full size bidon. 21 April 2011
Rated 3 out of 5 by Spoiled by bottle mounts Bought this for my son and it is a great bike overall. However, the completely ridiculous positioning of the bottle mounts means you can't actually get a normal size bidon in/out because it is too near the top tube. A pretty major oversight, in my book, that takes away a couple of rating stars. 10 March 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Brilliant Bike Grrrreat bike - I've won nearly every race since purchasing my cool pro-lite. The eye-catching graphics and design of the bike make it a pleasure to ride and is quite light weight. The bike handles really well helping me to hold speed around corners of the race track. I would give this racer 10/10 29 August 2009

downtube shifters?

The reviews that mention that the bike has the shifters on the downtube are quite old (2010/11). Has the design been updated at all since then and changed to lever, indexed shifters or is it still downtube?
Thanks

Answer:
Due to the frame geometry of the bike and the range it has you can fit an age range of around 9 to 12 years old. Ideally you will have to contact us with a height and body type to we can ideally work out what will fit and what changes would make the best fit for you. You can contact us at:
