Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 116 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 Top quality chainring. Big weight drop and easy shifting without spending lots. Fitted the Race Race NW a few months ago, should have done it a year ago. Loved idea of 1x but didn't want to spend money required for full 1x groupo. Have never dropped chain with SRAM Type2 X9 and KMC X10SL chain. I'm rough on gear due to being a muppet skills wise in the bush and really bang bike around. I'd suggest latest review saying chain dropped every ride is setup/equipment issue. Its definitely not due to this NW ring. FYI, dropped 340grams off bike by removal of double chainrings, front mech and shifter. 27 September 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by The go to for single rings! Bought this to replace the 3x setup on my trail bike. The narrow wide configuration coupled with a clutch style rear derailer has kept my chain in place and slap free on even the gnarliest of trails! 23 September 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Looks great, doesn't work properly. Looks cool and very well made, however it does no stop the chain from dropping. I have a Sram X9 clutch mech and still drop my chain every ride. Buy an ordinary chainring and save the money for a chain guide. 21 September 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Chainring First of all it look great and fits well with E Thirteen Single Ring Bolt Set. Chain never left its place with a Shimano shadow+ rear mech. Great choice, highly recommend! 14 September 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Haven't dropped a chain all season In concert with an XT shadow+ rear mech, its been a season free of dropped chains. I have also run with the shadow+ disengaged and was equally successful, however the chain noise/slap goes way up. 06 September 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect Had ths for about a month now and despite some ludicrously rocky bumpy sections of the track it refuses to give up its grip on a chain. Well worth the money 05 September 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Works great Mated it onto a Shimano XT crank & BB. 40 tooth Hope Trex expander cog with Shimano XT Shadow clutch rear mech. BTW the bike is 2011 specialized camber expert. I,m we'll impressed with setup. Run mainly moorland single track trails & bridleways. Not ditched the chain once. 04 September 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Brilliant chainring The deep teeth and narrow/wide config make this thing really good. I've not had to run a guide, just coupled with a bash guard, and along with the clutch mech on the Zee derailluer, there's not much that's throw the chain off this ring. 01 September 2014

Answer:
Single-ring set-ups tend to use shorter chain ring bolts, so it may be necessary to replace your existing bolts with some single-ring specific bolts. Try your existing bolts first though - if they don't catch on anything and they're still in good condition then there's no issue.

Answer:
If both chainrings are mounted with the same bolt then you'll need new ones. If not you can use the ones for your largest ring.

Answer:
I've just installed a 30t on a slx m675 double, used the 8.5mm bolts that were used on the existing small ring, this leaves 1.3mm of thread, which is about 1.5 to 2 threads exposed on the chainring. This set up appears to be adequate.

Answer:
Yes it should work fine, but if you go ahead with your suggestion also consider that you will almost certainly need to shorten your chain and possibly change your chain ring bolts to single-ring specific bolts if your existing bolts are too long.

Hello!
I know it says it is made for 9-10 speed systems, but I was wondering if that means it's backwards compatible with, say, an 8 speed cassette/derailer/chain.

I put a FSA Giamondi single speed crankset on my bike and the 48t ring is a bit too big so I'm considering changing it.
If this chainring fits an 8 speed setup and will help prevent derailing (which I've been experiencing while coasting), I'll get one.

Answer:
It is OK for any cogs in the back.
And yes, it grips the chain nicely, you wont loose it.
So nice that its OK for XC, but something harder may cause chainloss.
It also depends on the cassette, I have ZEE crankset + SAINT chainguide and chain sliped once, but from the cassette.
I wasnt even doing much, just riding.
But it never slipped during the races
I have 9spd shimano cassette + SRAM x5 derauler.
If you have giamondi so its road bike, should fit fine and reduce chainloss drammatically, but choose the proper version with five holes.

Answer:
Can't see any reason why it wouldn't mate to an older rear cassette, but I don't think I would run it without a clutch rear mech or front chain guide, (either or) possibly be wasting your hard earned if you just use it on its own. Hope this helps.

Answer:
A chainguide could help with the problem but in many ways defeats the purpose of using a 'Narrow/Wide' chainring in the first place.

The issue of chain drop is being caused by too much chain slack which is the result of the long cage derailleur. Ideally to solve the problem and obtain a very efficient drivetrain, it is advised to run either a Type 2 or Shadow+ short cage derailleur depending on the manufacturer of your shifters (be aware that mixing SRAM and Shimano Shifters/Derailleurs should be avoided).

Answer:
Are you dropping on inside or out? My set up is with 11-36T rear cassette and long cage derailleur and doesn't seem to drop. Too much chain length maybe? The short cage is more about smoother quicker shifts on a single front but I'm no expert and it may help. As for the chain guides, hope do an excellent outer one that only weighs about 30g and there are plent of inner ones to choose from that are both iscg and bb fitment

Answer:
I've got this mounted on the 104BCD (middle ring) of my SLX crankset (originally 3x9), running fine here.

Can't speak to the bolts though, I sanded down my original ones to remove the big & small ring on the cranks before I got this & just use them now with no real problems (needed a bit of loctite to keep them tight). I have ordered some Raceface nuts & bolts to replace them, so I'll report back once I've given them a go.

Answer:
This chainring is designed to be used on a 1x9, 1x10 or 1x11 setup.

It will fit to a Deore spider but to use with a 3x10 setup will not be possible as this chainring is not designed to shift.

The suggested bolts below will be fine for securing the chainring to the spider for a 1x10 setup.

Answer:
The 32T versions of this ring that CRC are selling all have a BCD of 104mm. Saint M820's are 104 BCD so yes, the ring will fit fine. Just make sure that the rest of your drivetrain is compatible with running a narrow/wide ring.
