Ragley Big Wig 29er Frame

The Big Wig 29er features Ragley's Trail Geometry and a custom triple butted and heat treated 4130 Chromoly steel tube-set frame. Building on the success of their other models they have retained innovative features such as the 3 Finger Bridge, Chainstay mounted disc brake calliper and the Taperlite seattube. The slack head angle and inclusion of ISCG 05 tabs hint at this bike’s true intentions for getting lairy on the trails and hammering the descents!

The Big Wig uses the 44mm headset standard which permits the use of headsets from Cane Creek, Nukeproof and others to accommodate all steerer tube configurations. With the right headset, this frame can take a 1 1/8", tapered or 1.5" fork. We recommend Nukeproof headset models - 44IESS and 44IISS (standard), 44IETS (tapered) or 44EEOS (1.5in steerer).

Trail Geometry: Ragley's trail geometry features a head angle of 68.5deg and a bottom bracket drop of 60mm to lower your centre of gravity and inspire confidence through the rough stuff. When coupled with a mid to long travel fork, the improved geometry results in impeccable trail manners, handling and stability which should see you go up, along and down faster than ever before!

Features:

  • Custom triple butted and heat treated 4130 Chromoly steel
  • CE EN14766 Certified
  • "Three Finger" chainstay bridge is exclusive to Ragley, and allows massive tyre clearance so you can fit 2.4in rubber with massive chainring and tyre clearance. Happy with 36t middle rings and gives resilience to any attempted chainsuck/derailment.
  • Bolt on Cable guides located on the underside of the top tube allow for neat and tidy adaptable routing to suit your set up.
  • Taperlite Seattube
  • Revised and updated Trail geometry
  • ISCG 05 Tabs

Specifications:

  • Head Angle: 68.5 Deg

Rated 5 out of 5 by 7 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by A true modern day 'jack of all trades steel hardtail' If you're worried about weight and performance then you really are missing the point of the 'wig. This bike is fun, fun and more fun. Ok so it is a little lardy on the climbs, but it copes. Point it downhill and it excels, berms, jumps, rock gardens, roots etc it just chews them up and spits them out. Who needs a full susser when this gem of a steel hardtail can truly handle all that is put in its path. The finish of the frame is excellent with some nice detailing and the disc mounted inside the rear triangle. Looks really good in the flesh with the embossed head badge and nice graphics. However be aware the paint does mark easy and needs protecting from cable rub. I am running this with some fox 120mm forks and external lower headset with no adverse effects on handling. 20 February 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Like Butter Early Days yet but it's a fun bike. Built it up using 130mm tapered revelations with a nukeproof external bottom cup headset, On One adaptable wheelset (ghetto tubeless) with 2.4" Conti Mountain King 2's, I've it well sagged and it handles excellently. Climbs really well, I've a Funn Flame On flat bar to keep the front down along with a Crank Brothers Cobalt 2 straight seatpost. 18" frame, I'm 5'10" inside leg 31" and for a trail bike it fits perfectly. Lovely!!! 18 February 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by HEHEHEHE, A lotta Fun! Built this up with some doubt in my mind as to whether 140mm forks would ride well on a 29er. No worries there! Would it be heavy- No worries there, rides lighter than it is. Built it up with 140mm dual postion revelations - 2 bikes in one. Drop travel to min the wig climbs like a mountain goat and pedals better than my 26er XC bike it replaced. Point it down hill and it will happily tackle anything any full suss I've ridden will. Just to confirm its versatility the wig has smashed round sherwood pines faster than any other bike I've ridden, hammered Dark Peak descents and loops round Ladybower and recently nailed 70km of Dales trails without missing a beat or beating me up! I love my big pig! 07 November 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by if you dont race seriously and want a fun 29er HT, put this on your list. Very, Very fun frame. gets a little strange above 120mm travel so I would suggest stick with that as a max. loves jumping popping and pumping the track. Fairly short top tube and seemingly low BB. Its not particularly stiff, it's pretty heavy and the paint seems to mark fairly easily but none of that matters once you realize how much fun this thing is. Its built well and will last for years. If you're more concerned with having fun on the trail than who has the lightest bike with the newest trends... get one, you won't regret it. 29 October 2013
;) 15 October 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic all mountain frame I've always loved Ragleys and after riding more XC 29ers, this seemed perfect as an All Mountain bike. I just love riding this thing! So much so that I've sold my full susser and XC bike as the Big Wig can do it all. Those narrow chainstays combined with beefy 2.4 tyre capability give amazing shock absorption and I'm no slower on this on the downs than I was on my 150mm travel full suss. The climbs are a pleasure in comparison. I love the detailing and I love the headbadge. It's definitely a keeper 16 August 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great frame I've had this for a good few weeks now and used it plenty of times at trail centres and steep natural rocky paths around the Peak District. I love it. I've got a set of 130mm Revs on the front and big 2.4 tyres. It climbs like a beast and is bombproof downhill. It is pretty heavy at 2.7kg but I can live with that as this bike really will do everything. I'm enjoying the descents more than on my 150mm Travel Trek Remedy full susser and certainly more than than on my old On-One 456. Buy one! 04 May 2013

Answer:
Hi, I am 6'8" and have a 20" frame. My seat post is up pretty high and I have a few spacers on the steerer. At 6'4" the 20" should fit like a glove. Buy one you'll love it!!

Answer:
Ragley recommend using an internal bottom cup for a fork running over 130mm of travel. Using an external lower cup with a 140mm fork will slacken the head angle and could adversely affect the handling of the bike.
