Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent pedals for Quality & Price. I've been using these pedals for a year now & have found them to be durable, light, and an all round best buy, for those who want to keep S.P.D. cleats & ride a road bike.!! 31 December 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Lightweight, good stiff release, easy to spin and engage, durable enough for a couple of seasons I use these on my road and XC bike. Despite their small size they give a great platform, very stable across the foot left-right making them feel like a bigger pedal. The tension adjustment range goes from weedy to epic, I've never had them false release when charging up a short steep hill in the big ring. There's no vertical play in them. I hate Crank brothers pedals for this reason as you get slop at the top of each pedal revolution- not with these. The lack of vertical play also makes them super tight for fast bunny hops on the trails where you can just pull your bike straight up under you. Downsides, they are small, the bearings are small and I generally get 12 months from a pair of cleats and two seasons from a pair of pedals before the bearings go or the cage is just so worn they lose their tension and platform. Frankly though, for the money and especially the weight I expect them to have a finite lifespan. I'm just about to replace my road pedals. This will be my forth set is seven years. I've tried everything else, they are either clunky in use or just too heavy for me. 16 August 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by love em I've been using these for ~18,000km with no problems. It took about 5,000km for the the seals to free up enough to let them hang reliably in the heel down position. They are as light as some much more expensive pedals and work just as well, with the added virtue that the cleats don't wear out quickly like plastic ones. There is a trace of surface rust appearing on the spindles and a touch on the clamps but it's easily cleaned up. So far they've been super little pedals. 14 May 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Light & well sealed A superbly priced pedal which is durable & long lasting, when used on the road. If you like the "walkability" of S.P.D. type shoes, these are a real must to own. 19 March 2012
Rated 2 out of 5 by function-terriffic,durability poor I've been using Shimano SPD pedals since they came out because the small recessed cleats permit me to walk comfortably when I get off the bike. I found them to be heavy but to be vey durable and to work well. The light weight of the Ritchey V4 was the main selling point for me so I picked up a pair and loved how they worked. Unfortunately the metal seal on the crank side of one pedal slid out within a few months and I was unable to reinsert it even after disassembing the pedal. I think they would be great pedals if ritchey would address the durability issues. 20 December 2011
Rated 2 out of 5 by Light but delicate Put these on my wife's road bike. She uses SPDs on her old road shoes, so these seemed a good choice. They look tiny compared to XT SPDs and they weigh nothing. But in the first month the left one started to get 1-2mm of side to side play. Then the dust caps on the axles crept loose and wont stay in place. I cant work out how to adjust these pedals - I managed to get the end cap off but then I was defeated by what lay inside. Oh and finally, they are made of CrMo so they rust! 29 November 2011
Rated 3 out of 5 by Light weight Seemed amazing when I first got them, so light it it made a huge different in feel. first, the crank side, metal seal casing/retainer on right pedal came off after 2 months or so. 2nd after a year or so both pedals started to seize up, tried to take off the cap(alu)with hex key but it just rounded immediately. Thought, bother, tried with pliers but nuttin, so drilled it out. Still work I suppose... They have been outlived by my bomb proof Shimano SPDs which I bought for half the price about 7 years ago and they still keep on rolling, so back to those. Shame. Make the cap from sterner stuff, seal them better and i'll buy them again. 21 October 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love them I actually use these on my MTB. They are weighted so that they actually hang in a better position to engage than most double sided mtb spds. I don't like the Crank Brothers pedals the Egg beaters have vertical slop in them that i find annoying at the top of the pedal stroke. The Ritcheys are light, reasonably tough, don't expect them to last more than two seasons off road, and have way higher retention force than most spds, which i like. If you are a cross country whippet who likes to stay locked in they are a great choice. 01 September 2011
