Rock Shox Pike RCT3 Solo Air Forks - 15mm 2014

DON'T CALL IT A COMEBACK

A comeback has never been so amazing. After taking a few years off, PIKE comes back in the RockShox lineup, as the ultimate trail fork. Your trail could be a silky smooth ribbon of singletrack, or a rock-infested goat trail in the Alps. Either way, there is a PIKE for you.

Specifications:

  • Weight: 26” – 1835g (4.05 lb), 27.5” – 1861g (4.10 lb), 29” – 1876g (4.14 lb)
  • Spring: Solo Air
  • Damping: TurnKey lockout
  • Adjustments: External rebound, low speed compression, 3-position compression (Open/Pedal/Lock)
  • Steerer: Tapered Aluminium
  • Crown: Forged, hollow 7075 Aluminium
  • Lowers: Magnesium, disc only
  • Axle: Maxle Lite 15mm
  • Maximum Rotor Size: 200 mm

NB: Does not include pump, seal kit or star nut.

Technologies:

  • Air Guides: We print Air Guides on all of our air-sprung forks. Maybe not a technological feat, but it will help you set up your suspension in seconds instead of minutes. And more time on your bike equals more chances to earn King of the Mountain on your favourite trail. Maybe they are a technological feat.
  • Charger Damper: Performance focused - No compromise for lockout: The efficiency circuits (Pedal and Lock) sit behind the performance damping, meaning no sacrifice in bump performance for shredding downhill while keeping the ability to maintain pedaling stability for those leg burning climbs. - Rapid Recovery: More control with less energy. Bladder Charged - Extruded bladder design is insanely durable, resists damping change during extended downhills and has virtually zero pressure offset for small bump sensitivity. Trail Tuned - RCT3 features Open with an adjustable low speed compression, Pedal and Lock.
  • Solo Air: Solo Air is like a Buddhist monk. Its enlightened design lets you add air to your forks through a single Schrader valve, filling both the positive and negative air spring chambers simultaneously. So they’re always in perfect equilibrium, like Yin and Yang. Giving you a plush, predictable ride you can set up in seconds, with the lightest weight air spring on the market.
  • Maxle Lite 15mm: Who obsesses over the weight of their wheel axles? It’s ridiculous, right? It’s just a rod of metal bolting the wheels to your bike. But then again, Maxle Lite is a nifty thru axle system that makes your bike both lighter and stiffer. And less weight makes it easier to get your bike to do what you want. Especially when you don’t need to bring tools to remove it, front or rear. And that extra stiffness gives you the precision to hit your lines no matter how burly. So maybe that obsession isn’t so ridiculous after all. Now available on the new PIKE in 15 x 100mm size.
  • Power Bulge: When you need your forearms to be stronger for more control, you bulk them up in the gym. When you need more durability from your fork, bulk them up with our Power Bulge. Other companies just increase the stanchion size adding extra weight. Power Bulge simply reinforces the lower leg to allow for an oversized bushing, increasing stiffness and maximizing your ride. Plus, it’s called Power Bulge.
  • Rapid Recovery: Who doesn't want more available wheel travel for successive hits? The Rapid Recovery System allows the shock to recovery faster between consecutive bumps, letting the wheel track the ground with greater precision. This more active suspension system, doesn’t pack up and enables the bike to ride in a higher and softer part of the spring rate. Rapid Recovery gives the rider access to more available wheel travel, bump after bump, to achieve a smoother and more controlled ride.

Rated 4.1 out of 5 by 15 reviewers.
Rated 3 out of 5 by Expensive and no pump included. Was dissapointed I did not get the 'pump & spare seals' with my forks. I mean you need the pump to set the forks up correctly and after spending a shed load of money on parts for a new build I have to now buy a pump as well for these forks. I see the pumps for sale for just over £20, which fair enough is not a lot compared to the cost of the forks so why did they not include one?. I mean c'mon these forks cost a lot of money for what they are, you would think they could at least include the pump!. Some reviewers say they got one and some not, if you read the questions for this item - apparently these forks do not come with a pump, I did not read this before buying. I would have thought paying so much money I would get the complete package. I really don't get it. 15 August 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Out of this world.... These forks are amazing and great value had no issues and run so smooth for so long... 14 August 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Plush, stiff fork upgraded from 150 talas 32s to 150 pikes. noticeably stiffer chassis and super plush. small increase in stack height, but not really noticeable. 05 August 2014
Rated 2 out of 5 by Faulty rebound/Compression damper. 10mm dead spot at the top of the travel. My Pikes had a 10mm dead spot at the top of its travel from new but reading other posts suggest that i was not alone. It appears the air chamber cut out groove gets blocked with grease so the air doesn't equalise itself back properly. My rebound became far too fast, even at the slowest settings and it developed a thump when compressing or returning. Switching on the big pedal assist dial caused the compression to make a thump and ramp up severely halfway down through its travel. All is not well and i'm sending them back to CRC under warranty. 03 August 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Rockshox Pike 160 mm muy buena calidad y envio exlente muy rapido , muy contento con la compra 02 August 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Amazing Just bought a Kona 153 Process with these forks on, amazing doesnt cover it 01 August 2014
23 June 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Blows the Fox CTD lineup out of the water I replaced the 120mm Fox Float 32 CTD 29er that came stock with my Giant Trance X 0 with a Pike Solo 140mm after being thoroughly disappointed with Fox's offerings. I won't go into detail but I absolutely hate everything Fox's 32mm platform (and redesign). The Pike really is a superior beast in every way. It's got a very reasonable weight, great rebound, simple adjustment, and an excellent damper. Most importantly, it's laterally stiff! Gone are the days when I could grab my handlebar and get the fork to twist over an inch in either direction. The steering and on-trail feel are excellent in comparison to anything you get from Fox's 32mm line, and the weight penalty is negligible. My only complaint is the price. Let's face it, aftermarket forks are a total ripoff. I can buy OEM shocks, struts, and installation hardware for all 4 wheels of my VW for a third of the retail of this fork. Adjustable or not, forks are vastly overpriced and the Pike is anything but a good deal. 04 June 2014

Answer:
Yes, the 140mm travel version will be a direct swap for the original forks. Increasing the travel will affect the geometry and may also affect the warranty on your bike so best check with your dealer on this.

The recommended maximum fork length of my frame is 530mm. It's Cannondale Prophet 2007. The headset bottom cup height is around 13mm. It's a Hope Pick'n'Mix traditional 1/5".

I would like to keep the fork+headset height within the recommended 530mm. According to the attached image, the new Pike's axle to crown height is 532mm. Adding the height of my headset bottom cup on top of this make 545mm which is exceeding the maximum recommended height.

Would it be possible to reduce the fork travel to 140mm from 150mm by removing spacers?

Thanks.
