Schwalbe Durano Plus Performance Road Bike Tyre

Maximum puncture protection for race machines! The Durano Plus has a SmartGuard belt for extremely effective protection against penetration punctures. The strong, highly elastic, special rubber layer is not as thick as in the Marathon Plus. Nevertheless it has a level of protection unparalled in racing cycle tyres.

Rated 4.6 out of 5 by 14 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by So far so good Have been running Durano's on my racer for about 750 miles and so far so good. Heard a lot of bad things about conti's so decided to go with schwalbe. I opted for a little heavier tyre than a race tyre - mainly because of added puncture protection. As of yet, I havent had a puncture and tyre-wear seems to be going well - touchwood 01 July 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Heavy & slow rolling but IED proof! These tyres last forever. Well over 2500 miles before my first puncture and that was due to migrating glass within the tyre. Thats something worth keeping an eye on, due to the puncture resistant belt being so thick, glass can get stuck in and it may eventually work its way through until it causes a puncture. At this point though, its pretty much time for a new pair! They grip well in the wet too, but all in all they are pretty slow rolling. This is also enhanced by their huge weight, 450g ! They will render your super fast race machine into a tractor! But as an all round commuter tyre they are amazing! 26 May 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Comfortable ride, puncture protection, grip...commuting/training I commute around 300kms a week on bike paths which have fair amount of bumps,glass/stones debri etc. These tyres absorb the bumps, provide excellent grip and have top puncture protection. I pull out glass pieces from the rear tyre every week which can easily puncture a "race" or stock tires. I am using 28mm wired version, it is heavy you may loose 1-2 kms per hour average speed. Best used for commuting or training. they are better than Gatorskins in wet. Please note 28mm when mounted on a road bike rim is only 25 mm 26 May 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Solid I have had two sets so far - they seem to last (for me) about ~10000 km a pair. They take a battering despite a mix of urban (broken glass & big potholes) and rural ( hawthorn trimmings & big potholes) I have maybe 2-3 punctures per year. They roll fairly quick and stick relatively well in adverse riding conditions like heavy rain and loose surface material. 27 April 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Virtually indestructible 23C mounted rear wheel lasted almost 2600 km without a puncture on rough roads filled with flintstone chips and glass chards. Punctured only when the rubber layer was worn off 12 March 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Lands End to John O'Groats the long way I put a set of these on prior to completing Lands End to John O'Groats the long way (2,500 miles) no punctures. The same set then lasted all the training and another Lands End to John O'Groats trip (2,200 mile this time) with only 1 puncture. By this time the tyres were worn out and so was I. In essence you cannot go wrong with these tyres, and as for rolling weight, I cycled up Winnats Pass and Holme Moss with a full kit in my panniers no problem! 06 March 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Heavy, reliable slick touring tyre I rode on a set of Durano Pluses for two years (the same set) - and had nary a puncture. They were ridden in road races, triathlons, and some long "unknown destination" journeys with them. They've been on sharp, newly-gravelled roads, hard packed gravel, light loose gravel, and all manner of road surfaces with nary a puncture. They're the tyre equivalent of tanks - and they weight almost just as much. Still for a cyclosportive event where I wanted to finish without worry - instead of pick a faster tyre to be more competitive, this would be the one. 21 January 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Best all round tyre I believe these to be the best all round training/commuting tyre on the market. They aren't puncture proof, but they seem to be better than anything else I've tried (including gatorskins). You can feel the protection layer which can be off-putting at first as it feels like you are 20 odd psi down. I get about 5000kms and 1 to 2 punctures out of one fitted to the rear and about 7000kms usually without a puncture on the front. I should mention that I ride on average to poor roads with a high amount of stones. I could push the wear out another 20% but the frequency of punctures increases very quickly after you can see the blue layer start to wear through. They hold pressure better than any tyre I've used before. Excellent value for us Aussies as these tyres retail for over $80 over here. 05 November 2013

Are these tyres bulkier than others of the same size? I am asking because i want to know if I will have clearance for these tyres in 700x25. The supplier of my bike says up to 700x28 for most tyres , so will it be be ok with marathon plus in 700x25?

Answer:
Different manufacturers sometimes use a different size of carcass which can give variations in the size of inflated width.

However Schwalbe's sizing is accurate to the sizing listed and should fit to your rims without any issues.

hi
could you suggest some good anti-puncture tyres. looking at the schwalbe durano or durano plus. Could you suggest any others?. Also could I get away with 28c (700c wheels) on my road bike wthi sora caliper brakes and sks mudguards. One of the durano reviewers said that 28c duranos were the equivalent to 25c on a road wheel - not quite sure what he meant.

Answer:
These tyres have a wire bead, but they are not overly heavy considering the weight and the puncture protection on offer.

Would 700x25 fit my road bike?

I was thinking of fitting these to my road bike to do coast-to-coast route (I've heard some sections are hard on road bikes#.

Would these be a suitable tyre & more importantly would they fit my bike #Focus Varaido with open sport rims).

Thank you.

Answer:
Yes, these tyres are compatible with the open sport rims. For the maximum volume possible with this model; the 700 x 28c (sku267571) would be the best option.
