For a perfect trail ride. Everything has been tuned for control and maximum riding fun. The tread functions with absolute poise and is well behaved in every situation like difficult terrain on singletrack.

Great tyre! Had it on now for a few months the increase in grip from old tyre is brilliant!

I first bought a pair of these summer 2012. I have previously reviewed them as amazing but long term, that view has changed.
I ride a mix of everything on a 160mm bike. This ranges from a quick blast round the woods to Antur Stiniog and BPW.
I have run them tubeless with Stans at 30psi on DT 5000 rims.
I have had 5 tyres in just over 12 months of both compound.
They are grippy. I cant fault that. They are game changingly good in terms of grip. They roll well but hold on a corner like nothing else and on all surfaces including wet roots.
The fault lays in the fact that I have had 5 in this short time. Because of the above, I keep going back for more.
The quality and strength if these is low to none existent.
Ignore any reference to snakeskin sidewalls. They are weak and tear easily ending any hope of a tubeless set up.
The main issue is the tread. I have literally being ripping the knobs straight off whilst cornering. When I say rip, I dont mean a bit of rubber, I mean the whole knob through to the inner structure opening it up. On one corner I lost three ending that tyres short life. On another its still usable with a tube.
A further issue is the lay up is poor. I have two where the lamination is separating.
Its so disappointing for such a good tyre.
I have always worked on the fact that high rollers and minions are the only worthy tyres out there and thats where I will be heading back to.
If you want grip and your not aggressive, these may suit you.
They are a high volume tyre so you will need clearance and a wider rim to give them sidewall support.

I've had these tyres on my full suspension all-mountain bike for 1 year now and they've covered just over 1,700 miles. They've seen all conditions, including: road, gravel, sharp stones, rocks, roots, sand, dry mud, thick wet mud, snow, ice and everything in between. After 1,700 miles the front tyre looks brand new and not worn down at all. The studs on the rear tyre have worn down about half way, but there's still more than enough grip available so I don't even have to think about replacing it yet. These tyres offer great grip in all conditions whether that is climbing or cornering, they are very hard wearing and can go as low as 23PSI (with an inner tube). They have a tough thick side wall and seem quite resistant to punctures too.

This is a follow up to my review below. About 9-10 months on them and the have worn well but that is majority winter so much less wear and use the hard tail. Just been out on a quick blast around the local blue(so not even close to rough) and coming out of a corner I heard my tyre going down! Stopped and on closer inspection, the side knobs are all ripping away. In the case of the puncture, it was a knob getting ripped off. The downfall of tubeless!! So, awesome tyre but to rip not one but two in less than a year!? Thats a bit poor. But then schwables do have a rep for being a bit flimsy. Theres the proof I guess. Still get another though ;)

Just coming from Hutchinson Cougars, these are the best tires to date! The trails in my area are a good mix of just about everything and Dampfs just track great and don't break on climbs. A stable and grippy tire. Worth every cent. The Cougars feel like slicks compared to the Dampfs!

Hands down these are the best tyres i have ever used. Got them on my intense at the mo and the grip scares me. It actually took a bit of getting used to! Run them tubeless at about 30psi. Previuosly used and been a fan of high roller super tackies and nevegal dtc's. rode in dry dusty summer and crappy winter and they just keep on gripping. Only down side is the side walls are quite thin. I have one in the garage with a ripped side wall. It was from flint though.

Awesome in the mud and rain around Van Island in the North West, best used for an XC/AM bike. No punctures, grippy and I wish I had found them sooner. Good sized tire too unlike maxxis where the tires are usually smaller than advertized

I've been riding the dampf for the past month and a half around Victoria and Duncan on Vancouver Island in the mud and wet and its been great so far. Price is a bit more than other tires but its been well worth it so far. Not the fastest tire but built well for the wet winter weather. Will be buying new ones right after these are done.
