You have full control on icy roads with the Marathon Winter. Even in tight bends and under violent braking everything remains under control. The spikes work best on ice when running at minimum pressure, while at maximum pressure the tyres can be ridden on ice-free roads with minimal road noise.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Resound Bombproof and reliable
Did about 1000 km with these this winter commuting in snowy and icy conditions (+3 to -20 c) in Finland. Great grip (did not get into any accidents). Zero punctures too, and that's great taking into account our roads get sprayed with sharp gravel during the winter to combat the ice.
There's not much wear yet and I only lost about 5 or 6 spikes during all winter (it's also possible to replace lost spikes I hear).
They don't score high in weight or rolling resistance, but that's the cost of serious reliability!
They are also pricey, but definitely worth the investment. Based on my experiences this winter, these tyres will last for years to come.

Rated 5 out of 5 by atte Fast winter tyre with great grip
Been riding this in Finland's winter to work about 7km per day, on all winter conditions from -20C to 0C, snowy, dry and icy. Perfect tyre for me and will last many more winters.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Tobbe Adequate but fast wearing
Well having used the marathons for the last four winters in Helsingfors, Finland after riding Nokian tires for years has been a mixed blessing. The increased number of studs ensure that grip on ice and hard snow is good. I am on my second pair and have had to replace countless studs and this is perhaps my biggest gripe with the tires. Luckily, one can get replacement stud kits with Schwalbe's patented installation tool and once one adds a dab of glue this helps but the Nokians held on to their studs far better.
Another downside is tire weight and the fact that they roll rather badly and unevenly, however this is the bane of many studded offerings.
Having said this I am dying to try the 45north Xerxes foldable studded tires at less than half the weight and with supposed wonderful rolling qualities....of course at twice the cost.

If you intending to cycle on ice then these are the best way to go with no slipping at all. I ride a fixie for 25 miles on my daily commute mostly on untreated roads . Since buying these I hardly give the ice and snow a second thought . I have them on a spare set of wheels and change them as required i run them at 35 to 50 psi. At low pressures they are hard work but the grip is very good. They appear to be wearing well and will probably last me two or three winters. Buy them you will not regret it.

Great tyres! Bought them to ride in Russian wihter. They perfectly hold me on ice roads keeping up to 20 km/h speed and even faster.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Anonymous Do the job OK.....
Quite heavy tyre and they are by no means fast, on my CX bike they are noticeably harder to push than CX knobblies of the same size, they require a running in period on tarmac, 25 miles or so, I lost 3 studs in that time, although a quick E-mail to Schwalbe and they sent replacements. Grip on ice is superb, the first indication you will have is when the normal ripping velcro sound the tyre makes dulls down, grip on tarmac is not so good, they feel much more "loose" than a normal knobbly, some hard surfaces set up a buzzy vibration through the bars. Stud loss tails off once they're run in, after the initial loss, I've lost 2 in the past 600 miles. Recommended!
