Schwalbe Muddy Mary DH Tyre - Vertstar

Our Grip Monster. The aggressive ‘intermediate’ profile grips on any terrain. Racers are inspired. Outstanding control in all weathers and ground conditions. In addition it has great self cleaning ability in sticky conditions. Muddy Mary’s extremely broad spectrum of use covers 90 % of all circumstances.

Triple Star Compound. We have taken the development of Triple Compound a step further. In the course of innumerable series tests, prototypes, laboratory and practical tests we developed a system of highly specialized single compounds. We arranged these into Compound-Teams, each engineered to fulfill a specific job. Mountain biking has many different disciplines that require specific and different solutions. So we developed three completely different Triple Star Compounds.

This technology is now in all our Freeride tires:

  • SnakeSkin. A clearly visible feature of our Freeride tires. The outer side wall coating consists of a SnakeSkin
  • fabric instead of heavy rubber. Just as durable, but clearly lighter.
  • Snake Bite Protection. Side pinch-puncture protection provides safety and stability
  • Limited Slip Technology (L.S.T.). The tire bead has a special rubber coating that effectively reduces the tire slipping on the rim.
  • Downhill. All the Freeride features plus a double carcass.

Downhill Compound:

  • Easy rolling base layer (base)
  • Super-soft center (super soft)
  • Extra-soft Shoulders (extremely soft)

  • 60/64-559
  • Downhill
  • VertStar
  • Bar: 1,6-3,5 /1,5-3,2
  • PSI: 23-50/20-46
  • Weight: 1190g/1350g
  • EPI: 2 x 67

Rated 5 out of 5 by Best 2.5 tire out there! The 2.5 vertstar tire is a great allround tire. It has tons of grip in dry to greasy/wet conditions due to the super soft and slow rebound vertstar compound. It is a tall tire and actually 2.6 (67mm) thus also ideal for charging through rocky/rooty terrain. The only way to improve on such an excellant tire would be for it to become available in a supergravity version so it'd be lighter without losing the bulletproofness! Also hope the 2.5 version will also be available in 27.5! 15 September 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Confidence inspiring These tires are AWESOME! I ride dh in canada where is ranges from sloppy mud to loose sand and deep loam. They grip onto anything, wet or dry. They brake really well and before you know it you'll be braking way less because of how fast they stop you! They corner very well and the only problem i seemed to find is that they get a little sketchy on dry, rocky hard pack. Other than that, they will take anything you throw at them and grip it! I highly recommend these tires. 10 February 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best all round I have ridden high rollers for years i ride low in corners and always felt like i couldn't trust the high rollers like they needed an extra shoulder knob But with these muddy marys they have a center knob middle and shoulder knob exactly what i needed they out brake the high rollers out corner them all the weaknesses they have the muddy marys have sorted never gripped my local trails like this my confidence has gone through the roof look at other reviews you`ll read this same praise in between a full mud tyres and a allround winter tyres danny hart rides them and a few others might be expensive compared to some tyres but worth it big time 26 January 2013
20 January 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great tyre Overall great tyre. When I dismounted my DHR minion tyre and put muddy mary aside, I realized how quality and robust this tyre is. Now I am riding with 2.5 muddy marys front and rear - the grip is awesome and you have so much stopping power. Tryed it in all conditions even in snow - grip is very good even though some tyres might perform better which are specialy designed for extreme wet surfaces or snow, but this tyre is able to do just fine in all conditions.. If you are looking for hybrid tyre.. gor for marys.. Only thing that I noticed when riding with friends (one on big bettys and one on minion DHFS) that I had to pedal alot more due to a bit more rolling resistance, but in wet and steep terain they were practicly crying and walking down the hill when I was steaming ahead with no problem at all on my muddy marys.. 26 December 2011

Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome! A brilliant tire , grips in pretty much all conditions , but at it's best in soft/wet soil , rolls fast for such and aggressive tire also , don't think I will be changing from these badboys any time soon!! 16 October 2011
Rated 5 out of 5 by Awesome traction I got two 2.35" muddy mary to replace my loved maxxis DHF. I needed to try new tires and am very glad i did. The 2.35" schwalbe is a tad bigger then the 2.5" maxxis. The tire sidewall is in every way alot better, stiffer and more durable. The traction is where i got blown away. I run at Bromont, Qc And we have a lot of different terrain. From hard pack berms to loose dirt to rock gardens to long slick rocks to killer roots. The tire eat all of it and never complained once. It felt right home right away. I didnt hold brakes long before getting enough confidence to gas up. I landed short few times and smashed few cisors where i would have got pinch flats before and rolllled away like nothing happened. Super great buy. 13 September 2011

A decent tubeless kit will seal this tyre to the rim and the tyre is fully Tubeless (UST) ready.

The following options should be selected in relation to the width of the rim being used.

The 'Standard Tubeless Kit' = 21.5-25mm Wide RIms
The 'Freeride Kit' = 27-34mm wide rims

The 'Downhill kit' = 36-39mm wide rims (not currently in stock).
