Rated 5 out of 5 by 2 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Upgrade from Tiagra 9 Speed Triple Excellent smooth operation and much better that the Tiagra's. With Shimano dropping Triples on 105 and Ultegra when moving up to 11 Speed, due to dodgy ankle wanted to keep with Triple and reliability and smoothness of 105 or Ultegra. Have now upgraded to 105 Shifters, rear mech (5701) and 11/28 Cassette and Ultegra front mech, chainset 52/39/30 and chain, all 10 speed and work great on my Spec TriCross. Great selection of gears with good speed on flat but also help when the going gets tough on long sportifs. 30 June 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by smooth shifters I got them a while back and put them on my bike, they work so well I have nothing bad to say about them at all 21 May 2014

Answer:
As you currently have a 9 speed drivetrain you are restricted to using a 9 speed shifter.

10 speed uses a different pull ratio and would also feature a 'dead click' as you only have a 9 speed block.

Confirm that this is a set?

Is this a set (front & rear) for a 3x10? Or this only one side?

Answer:
These shifters are available as coded; often times if there is a variety of options there will be 3 listings (Pair - Front & Rear; LH Front; RH Rear).

The 'Pair Front & Rear' is the complete (3x10) set.

'LH Front' will be the left hand (3sp) shifter only

'RH Rear' will be the right hand (10sp) shifter only.

I have a 9-speed ultegra triple front derailleur. I now have these 10=speed shifters, chain, crank etc. Can I still use the old front derailleur? Or do I need a 5703 version?

Answer:
The 10-speed Front Derailleur would handle the chain movement with more efficiency and would be recommended to complete the groupset to the same speed.

My touring bike has 105 ST-5703 STI shifters, 105 FD-5703 front mech,105 RD-5701 GS rear mech, R565 130/92 cranks with SG-X 50,39,30, rings, Tiagra 10 speed 12-30 cassette and HG CN-5701 chain.

I need a bigger cassette for loaded touring (often with trailer) in steep hilly areas. My current RD-5701 can only take up to a 12-30 cassette. Can I use my ST-5703s with a 10 speed deore/slx/xt rear mech and bigger cassette?

Unfortunately Road STI levers are not compatible with MTB derailleurs due to the variation in cable pull ratio.

I want to purchase a 105 5703 shifter set.

I have an older 10 speed triple105 groupset, bike was purchased in 2007, and I have updated the rear derailleur to an Ultegra model. Will the 105 5703 shifters work with this combination?
