Shimano 105 Chainset Triple 5703

Lightweight HollowTech II 105 10-speed chainset

Shimano 105 Chainset Triple 5703 Features:

  • Innovative HollowTech forged and anodised aluminium crank arms utilise a hollow design that minimises flex and keeps the weight low
  • The triple chainring teeth have been developed to work in conjunction with the CN-5600 chains for improved up and down shifting
  • HollowTech II allows the bottom bracket bearings to be spaced wider apart (outboard from the frame), enabling the use of larger bearings and an increased axle diameter
  • The system allows for easier installation, adjustment, and maintenance
  • Lightweight anodised SG-X aluminium chainrings for smooth and precise shifting

Rated 5 out of 5 by 2 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by No BB cups supplied with this crankset This is the second 105 triple crankset I have purchased from Chain Reaction. The first was supplied with BB cups. The listing for these does not say if BB cups are included or not. Chain Reaction should state that. Value rating is reduced accordingly. Aside from that the first 105 triple purchased some months ago works works flawlessly. 12 January 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Beautiful and works with 9 speed drivetrain Bought this as part of a custom all-shimano drivetrain for my commuter/touring bike. Silent, shifts like a charm (even under load during climbs) and looks very good (got the silver one). Most importantly, it is completely compatible with shimano 9 speed chains (i'm using SLX rear derailleur and cassette, so 9 sp was the way to go). Definitely a good bargain when bought from CRC for 126 CAD. 09 May 2012

Answer:
Due to the number of different frame bottom bracket shells on road bikes presently Shimano is not suppling BB's with the chainsets. Any supplied BB may not be suitable for the frame.

If you have a 9 speed drivetrain and want to use a 10speed chainset, we would recommend using a 10 speed chain. The 10 speed chain will work fine with the 9 speed gears.

We have a selection of Hollowtech bottom brackets on the website, but if you need help selecting one please email

Answer:
Both the 5703 and the 5600 cranksets are 10 speed so as regards compatibility there wont be any issues. Also both use Shimano's Hollowtech 2 bottom bracket system so there is no major changes needed to swap one crankset for the other.

Answer:
This crankset will fit fine. You will be able to use the existing bottom bracket and the front mech will still work fine with the new chainring sizes.

What bottom bracket do I need?

I have a Trek Madone 3.1
Would I need to buy a new bottom bracket to go with this chainset?
If so, which one do I need?

Answer:
The chainset requires a Hollowtech II compatible bracket system (24mm spindle) such as those linked below. Not being a Trek dealer or knowing the year of your frame I can't be sure which standard you are running.
