The ultimate goal of Shimano's SPD-SL pedal technology is to transfer more power from the body directly to the bike. Inspired by a Tour de France legend and realized through the legacy of Shimano Systems Engineering, SPD-SL integrates the shoe and pedal so they perform as a single ultra-efficient component.
The extra-wide low-profile cleat and binding mechanism creates a highly stable interface between the shoe and pedal, in a super lightweight design. No wasted movement. No loss to flex, voids or mismatched shoe/pedal designs. It's why so many Pro Tour and serious riders use SPD-SL.
For those looking for more fun than victory, our road SPD systems offer the efficiency advantage of clipless pedals with shoes that offer walking comfort.
Shimano A600 Pedals Features:

Light and easy to use. If you are worried about changing to the spd system, don't be, its very intuitive and easy to grasp.

I fitted them to my bike and paired them with Shimano MT33 SPD shoes. I use them for everyday commuting in trafficky roads. I am not very accustomed to clipping them out easily yet, but I have gained speed and acceleration .

Scratch up easily but not too noticeable as alloy coloured.

Since purchasing these pedals from the Chain Reaction I have noted that my Sirrus Pro flatty responds alot faster on take off's and provides a evenly distribution of power on the long flats - without the effort that was required with my last inferior set of pedals. These are a touring style pedal, single side cleat action.
Good value, Good quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous Great Road Pedal
Previously, I used the Shimano M540 on my road bike which are double sided and really easy to clip into when getting away from lights etc. I never noticed a pressure spot at the time, but the wide platform of these pedals is definitely more comfortable than the M540's.
Downside of these is they tend to hang the wrong way up so you need to flip them with your toe before clipping and as has been said they get badly scuffed when you attempt to clip when the wrong way up.
These also have a noticably wider float than the M540's, which is much easier on my knees - in fact, a few knee twinges I was having have disappeared since movng to these pedals.
I like the silver alloy appearance too, much better than the black faux carbon look that you find everywhere nowadays. These and the fact that you can get decent SPD road shoes means I have SPD across all my bikes and wear any shoe with any bike. Much less hassle.

ditto all the great comments
bought a pair and no regrets
the platform gives plenty of relief vs regular mtb pedals fitted to road bikes
OK, i thought crc being online was always going to be a better price point vs LBS
Just realized my lbs retails them 10% lower than crc's ... but everything else in crc is cheaper ... ok 10% is not going to kill me but the wait time and self-installation were the other penalties for me

Great quality, but the paint gets badly scratched the first time you use them. These use the MTB system cleats not the SL type in the description. Also they don't always stay mechanism side up, so you have to flip with your foot, very annoying sometimes.

I am a first-timer for clipless road pedals. I have been using toe-clips for my road bike. I hesitated to convert to clipless road pedals as I have heard many horror stories about how you couldn't clip-out in time when you really wanted to and sustained injuries. After all the "nagging" from my buddies, I finally gave in and, on their recommendations, I bought Shimano A600 just two weeks ago. Yes, they are excellent! Clip-in, clip-out, no problem. Highly recommended. For first-timers like me, I strongly suggest you purchase the SH56 cleats, which are multi-release, along A600, it would definitely shorten your learning curve.
