I bought this to replace and SRAM part that hadn't made it through the UK winter.
It's a heavy beast. It also needs a spacer for a hope hub that leaves a gap just the right size for a chain to get through and then stuck.
I'll go back to the SRAM equivalent next time.

Not sure what the difference is between 4*s and 5*s for a cassette. Used this for around 2500 mostly road miles on my mountain bike with Schwalbe hurricane tyres. Swapped for 9 speed kit while this was still going strong.
Aside: I c*cked up and bought a hub with an 8spd freewheel (d'oh). got another outer sprocket for this cassette, just as a spacer and ran it with my 7 speed shifters, essentially ignoring the second top gear, and all was well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Anonymous A very good cassette from Shimano for 7 speed veterans.
Recently, I changed my old 11-28 cassette with this high quality 12-28 Shimano cassette and use it with a new Sram PC 870, gear shifting is quick and smooth, close gearing ratio allows me better cadence control, better riding pleasure, Iam very very glad. Note: I also highly recommend to use 48-38-28 chainset with this 12-28 cassette for an efficient and better road performance (with a adequate climbing performance also) as a (mostly) road rider.
