Shimano Dura-Ace 9000 Bottom Bracket

Shimano’s updated their outboard and press fit bottom brackets, too. The bearings inside are smaller and the actual size of the external cup is smaller and lighter. The biggest improvement is in the sealing. They’re able to maintain the same sealing but with 50% of the resistance.

“For us, we believe that steel is the optimal material for the spindle and BB30 is really optimized for an alloy spindle and carbon crankarm,” said Lawrence. “We’re pretty committed to steel and aluminum arms and the 24mm spindle in steel is the best solution for us.”

Features:

  • Bottom bracket has smaller, bearings than current model for lightweight. New improved sealing ensures 50% less drag.
  • Available for conventional and Press-Fit applications
  • Outside positioned bearings for better weight distribution and more stability.

Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 7 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great BB top quality and very affordable. I think the majority of the cost is in the crankset, so for once with dura ace the cost of the additional BB is very good. 10 September 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Very Smooth well upgraded from 105 to this Dura Ace, the smoothness is confirmed upgraded. 30 June 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Not as compatible as you might think Warning. This BB is not as compatible as an upgrade as you might think. After replacing my Tiagra BB with the Dura-Ace was very impressed for a couple of hundred miles - quiet, smooth, fast and a great price. However, have now discovered that the Dura-Ace BB is fractionally wider than my previous one resulting in a loose crank which has damaged the splines resulting in the need for a whole new drive train! Not such a bargain price after all. 14 June 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by As good as it gets! The asking price for this bottom bracket is just too good, given that there aren't (as far as i'm aware) better, had to buy the BB tool wrench and some anti seize paste to go with it, but this novice had it all changed out in about 20 mins. 01 June 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Good upgrade from stock BB of Tern Verge P18 Able to feel the improvement immediately after the upgrade. The new BB is so much smoother than the stock BB from Tern Verge P18. 09 March 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by great piece of kit I was a bit surprised when this BB arrived ,but what a difference from my Hope ceramic bottom bracket. My Bianchi 928l now runs like it should, quick smooth and very fast. Would recommend this as an upgrade for anybody wanting to improve the smooth running of your drive train. 10 November 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent and looks great being smaller I replaced my 7800 BB with this new one as i also changed to a carbon fibre crankset and this BB spins nice and also looks the part with the smaller bearing cups. I hope they bring out an Ultegra version now so i can change my winter trainer to the smaller cups as the larger cups look a bit cumbersone in comparison. 10 April 2013

Answer:
Yes this is correct, FSA Uses Mega-Exo while Shimano use Hollowtech.

Both these spindles are 24mm but, the seals on the Mega-Exo Bottom Bracket are larger than what are found on the Hollowtech Bottom Brackets so you are recommeded to stick Brand to Brand.

Answer:
Unfortunately you cannot use Shimano Hollowtech II style of BB’s with SRAM chainsets that have a GXP Spindle. You need to use a SRAM GXP BB or a Bottom Bracket converted to suit GXP spindles.

Answer:
Yes, this should be ok to use with the CX70 chainset. The bottom bracket suggested for the CX70 is the BB-6700 (linked below), and this BB9000 runs a smaller external diameter of bearing and cup, but internal diameter and width is the same so they should fit fine.
