14 December 2010
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent With my old 7800 calipers I really didn't think you could improve on them. However these new 7900's are just as strong and Shimano have managed to increase the precision and adjustability. The cable tension nut has a more positive feel. Also the calipers for some reason do not need to be centred, with the 7800's I had to center the calipers every few rides. The new look is unique and only adds to their top level appeal, great job Shimano, you keep us coming back for more...oh and the price is quite reasonable. 31 August 2010

My 2007 Ridley Orion was supplied with an Ultegra groupset but with Forza calipers and I'd like to upgrade those. The information, when searching the web re. compatibility, is not quite as clear as I would like. Will my levers give the correct modulation etc. with DA calipers?

Answer:
Yes, the Ultegra 6600 levers will work fine with the Dura-Ace calipers; all the Shimano Road components should be cross-compatible within the same speed, although the higher end parts are usually lighter and more durable, so it's best to match like for like (105 & Tiagra, Ultegra & Dura-Ace etc).

Answer:
Yes, the Shimano road brake systems all use the same cable pull, so you can use your existing levers with any of the calipers. For best performance and most efficient shifting you should match the levers and calipers together.
