Rated 5 out of 5 by Quality kit! Good, strong and smooth and at a sweet price. I got this for my XC bike and it's been running well so far. 22 February 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Perfect fit value out of this world smooth gear change 21 February 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Cheap and cheerful Does what it's meant to at a ridiculously low price. Its quite heavy but good qulaity for such a cheap item. 31 January 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Unbelievable value for money I had to replace the chainset on my Cube MTB as removing the pedals which were proper ceased ruined the thread. Anyhow this chainset is almost identical to the Shimano M530 it replaced and to be frank for £19.99 it is rediculously cheap. If you need a decent MTB tapered chainset don't look any further. 29 January 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Value for money This has lasted me quite along time and its still got all the teeth, I have done a lot of xc and the only thing like with most cranks, the arms scuff very easy but that's no bigge coz its gonna happen, brilliant budget crank 07 January 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Get Em While They're Hot Most excellent price. I bought one. A friend bought one. Another friend bought two. No rivets and it has the Shimano logo. Instant upgrade for a play bike (no more fiddling or adjusting.......or welding :) Sold the bike I bought mine for. Bike didn't need it, but like I said, they were cheap, new, no rivets and had the Shimano logo. I was going to put on a new set of new $10 Victor VP-565 bare aluminum pedals with it (some things are cheaper at my LBS) - would have looked like a $100 upgrade. But hey, they look like the same inner and middle chain rings on my 2002 LX crankset, which aren't bad but they are worn (don't use an outer). I could swap them out and probably still sell the M442 locally for $15. Bonus. 14 December 2013
10 December 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Shimano Quality!! This is pure shimano quality at bargain price, what more do you want? 04 December 2013

Answer:
Why not? Only if your frame will contact with sprockets. This chainset will fit any square tapered-style bottom bracket axle, but will it fit your frame? Who knows, only frame manufactures!

Answer:
The crankset will come with both crank arms. All you need to buy separately is a sqaure taper bottom bracket.

The Shimano UN55 would suit - http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/shimano-un55-square-taper-bottom-bracket/rp-prod71369

Answer:
You can use this on an 8 speed drive train if you wish. Though we would suggest the use of a 9 speed chain. The 8 speed chain will be a little wide for the chainrings, but a 9 speed chain will work fine with 8 speed gears and cassette.

Answer:
The M442 chainset is the JIS standard of spindle taper. The majority of Shimano square taper is the JIS standard and will be perfectly matched with the Shimano UN range of square tapered bottom brackets.

The chainrings on the M442 crankset are removable and can be changed. They are 104/64mm bolt spacing and use standard chainring bolts.

Answer:
A square taper bottom bracket is required to run this crankset.

The Thread width and spindle length are generally frame specific. For more information on which size is correct for your frame; please contact our technical department here -

Hi, I recently bought an SRAM PC850 8spd Chain and SRAM PG850 8spd Cassette from your webstore. However after installing, the chain is slipping badly as the middle chain ring is worn.

Would this crankset work with the chain and cassette I have or would I have to buy a 9spd chain in order for this to work?

The bike I have is a Fuji Nevada 3.0 2010 which has a Sealed cartridge ST bottom bracket. Would this BB work with this crankset?

Cheers

Answer:
This chainset will be suitable with the drivetrain components you have currently fitted to your bike.

The chainset uses a square taper type bottom bracket which again should be compatible with what is fitted to your bike.

Chainring compatability

Would it be feasible for me to strip the chain rings from this M442 crankset and put the rings on my M581 crankset as this seems the most cost effective way of buying replacement chain rings?

Many thanks,

Howard.

Both chainsets share the same 4 bolt, 104mm BCD so you could switch the chainrings across.
