Rated 4.4 out of 5 by 19 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by sturdy and stabile. very ventileated as in cold.. I have normally around size 47 but ordered 48 and they are a very tight fit. Not to tight just very snugg. I live in sweden and we have a lot of water and wetness in the forests. The shoes has mesh all over and are light but cold. They get wet like a wash cloth and stay wet. So if you need shoes that will keep you warm go for something else. But i still feel they are good value and i really like them. They are just not really made for my kind of climate. 30 April 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good entry level shoe Let's start with the important bit for a cross country biker: these shoes are supremely comfy both on the pedals and while walking around. I even drive with them. Surprising as they are still rigid enough for pedalling. I went for EU 44 to suit my regular UK 8. They're not too heavy and provide a good bit of protection for the rockier/rootier trails. They aren't waterproof, but they do a reasonable job at keeping your feet dry, and the mesh construction and removable inner means they dry out overnight. Only gripes are the basic styling, the lack of grip and the fact that water leaks in through the sole where there are 4 cleat screw holes and only 2 cleat screws. The sticker that Shimano supply to make the sole waterproof is useless. I think I might fill them up with epoxy or something. 17 March 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by practical multipurpose shoe Bought these as my only pair of spd shoes for both commuting to work and tail riding, they are built very well, with no signs of wear in 6 months daily use through the winter. Only thing is the laces that haven't lasted. Comfortable enough to use all day on the trails cycling and hiking, fit was spot on size for me. Not waterproof, but dry very quickly when wet, the mesh panels can also make them a bit cold cycling in very low temps but thicker socks resolves that issue. Feel 10x better than normal sports shoes pedalling on the bike also. Not a huge fan of the styling but they more than make up for it in practicallity. Highly reccomend. 17 February 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Good Price, Good product still getting used to the clipless but seems to be fun! 02 January 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Отличные ботинки. Крепкие, качественные и удобные. Ноги не потеют. Легко отмываются от любой грязи. Рассчитаны на температуры выше +10. Потом уже сеточку продувает и ноги на скорости начинают мерзнуть. 09 October 2013
Rated 4 out of 5 by Womens shoes was one size too small Purchased EU39 size for my partner and despite all her shoes being being this size, the Shimano shoes are one size or so too small. CRC return policy does not help when the cost of freight back to the UK is AUD55 (air) or AUD29.30 (sea and 2-3 months). The mens sizes do not seem like this in my experience. These are otherwise excellent shoes for what they are intended. 13 September 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Shimano all the way!! Been riding for years and have always found Shimano shoes the best.Just bought my third pair and fully expect to carry on buying them in the future as they are so well designed and seem to fit like a glove and feel 'worn in' straight out of the box. 01 September 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great For Tour Cycling Easy to ride the bike in. Comfortable to walk in when needed. Easy to keep clean. 27 August 2013

Answer:
You could, for really really short runs, but I wouldn't as they are too stiff and the sole is really hard so will keep slipping off your flats, even if they have sharp pins. You're better off with a soft sole flat shoe, like Five-10s, which will be grippier and give you more feel.

Answer:
Yes, these will be suitable to use either with flat MTB pedals or with SPD pedals. The shoes have a flat, grippy sole for flat pedals and also are also capable to be fitted with an SPD cleat.
