Shimano Saint M820 Disc Brake

The new Saint disc brake embraces Shimano ICE Technology and advances it, reducing heat and improving performance through multiple combined features. In addition to finned brake pads, self insulating ceramic pistons and three layer rotor construction, new M820 disc brake systems will also see the introduction of a 30mm aluminum banjo fitting and an innovative finned rotor, that reduce operating temperatures by increasing the convective surface area. The new SM-RT99 Ultimate Clad rotor is a significant performance enhancement reducing heat by 50 degrees, creating 20% more stopping power, eliminating brake fade and increasing pad life. A new, longer 30mm banjo fitting extending from the caliper further reduces heat at a critical location where oil transitions from hose to caliper. Saint shares the excellent ergonomics and system stiffness found on Zee brake systems and is also ISPEC compatible.

Shimano Saint M820 Disc Brake Features:

  • New Shorter SERVO WAVE lever pivot
  • Improved ergonomic brake lever
  • Added dimples on brake lever for ideal ergonomic feel
  • One-way bleed for easy and clean servicing
  • Tool free lever adjustment
  • Free Stroke adjustment for even more fine tuning
  • Super stiff 3-layer brake hose for a more consistent feel
  • Colour: Black

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 15 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Sharp, powerful brake perfect for Downhill mtb Awesome sharp and powerful brake for those short snappy bursts of braking you need to carry as much speed as possible and brake as late as you want before entering sharp turns etc. Only downside didnt come with enough brake fluid so had to get them bled but its expected to get a brake properly adjusted to your bike when you buy one. 25 July 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Worth all the hype! These brakes are hands down the most powerful brakes I have owned. I bought these to replace my Formulas T1S on my Glory. The Saints outperform the Formulas in every way possible. The one thing that was disappointing was that the Saints came with a poor factory bleed and had to be re-bled before I could use them seriously. Also one of the springs that helps return the lever to the staring point has broken after a minor crash but easily replaced. 26 June 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Excellent brake! Awesome bit of kit! Very powerful, look good n help you get rid of your girlfriend when she finds out how much they cost. Oh well at least I got my brakes yipee+ 13 May 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by The Best Brakes i have been riding Downhill for tens years now and been through quite a few brakes and these are the best i have ridden, teamed up with the wavy rotor. shame there is no 6 bolt version to go with my other wheels ! 06 May 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Unbelievable brakes I have been using these now for a few months. The confidence they have given me has allowed me to start doing more technical trails and steeper descents. Undoubtedly the best add on I have bought for my bike. If something ever happens them I will definitely be replacing them. 15 April 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great price for an outstanding brakeset! these brakes are just amazing, Shimano have really hit the nail on the head with the new M820 Saint brakes. They are spot on stopping you in any codition without failure, the new cooling system works a treat. the XTR levers with a 4 psiton calliper works amazingly. Such an improvment on my AM bike over my old SLX brakes. Would recommend to anyone that wants a heavy duty and good price brake! Grab them now while you can! 30 December 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best brake on the market! My wife thinks I have a brake obsession! I have been through all the top brand brakes and shimano are simply the best! 14 December 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Yes Buy them. No regrets. Everything else is just a pale reflection. 06 October 2013

Answer:
This brake comes supplied with lever, caliper, hose (differing lengths listed), it will therefore come pre-bled ready to use. You will however require a rotor and adapter dependent upon rotor size.

Answer:
Yes they do come ready to mount to your bike but be warned that there has been a handful of complaints about the factory bleed not being up to standard. Whilst saying that these brakes are worth the extra trouble of re-bleeding IF need be.

Also I have made the silly mistake of ordering these whilst having a SRAM shifter with a direct mount to another brand of brakes. Shimano and SRAM's direct mount systems are different so if you don't have your SRAM shifters bolted up to a bar mount you will either need to buy the SRAM bar mount separately (+- $22 ea from where I am from) or change to a Shimano set up that supports Shimano direct mounts.

Answer:
You can mix and match different brands of caliper and rotor. This is generally not a problem. For the combination you are suggesting the Hope floating and Saint caliper this will be OK.

We would also recommend the Shimano Ice-Tech rotors, we find these to be very good.

Answer:
Ideally, you should match the rotor, mount adapter and caliper together with the same brand, but in practice most of the caliper spacing and rotor diameters are the same, so you can re-use original adapters. It's often a case of trial and error; at most you may need to add/ re-position spacers/washers to achieve perfect alignment, but these Saint calipers should work happily enough with the Avid mount/rotors.
