Rated 4.3 out of 5 by 9 reviewers.
Rated 4 out of 5 by Tough I got this when I upgraded to 10 speed on my AM bike. No regrets at all. Ran the shifter with a SRAM PG1070 (11-36) cassette and XTR M980 Shifters. Smooth and relaible. I can mash hard on the gears with no worry of slipping, mis-shifting. It also withstood countless crashes and knocks. In one incident, a 5 inch x 2 inch thick wood branch got caught in my rear d, spokes and rotor. I managed to pull it out and the derailleur was unscathed. Solid product that you don't need to worry about. 14 April 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great For DH! Excellent Product. Lasted a good season at Whistler. This is key: ensure that you get the shop to preform maintenance every 20 or so hours on the internal spring. This isn't well known but is mandatory if you want the spring to have a decent lifetime 17 February 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Great mech, some cheap components Broken the clutch lever on two separate mechs now. 21 November 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great! Shifts well and very durable. My only complaint is that CRC should've stated that this was OEM and doesn't come with any cable housing supplied. 08 November 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Product I've changed the rear mechs on all my rigs to the Saint as this thing is simply awesome. Being a SRAM user for the past 4 years, I must add that Shimano Saint mech is in a league of its own. The shifting is much smoother than my XO set up I had before & also much cheaper on the wallet. I know some have claimed that the Zee is just as good but the Saint is much much more durable in comparison. THe cage is short & stubby and it rarely gets in the way of rocks & obstacles. Get it tuned right from the get-go & you'll be amazed how precise it shifts. A 'Must Buy' for gravity guys. 14 February 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love it No more Mech knock, bike is so quiet now. Shifts a lot slicker than the M810. Recommended. 30 November 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Oh sh1t, these are good. My UGGs are covered in wee, that's how good. Nice and crisp, stiff shifts, feel responsive. So much better than anything SRAM can come up with. The clutch is awesome, stops chain slap and noise dead in it's tracks! It's like you've lost your chain! Don't worry about the short cage, it will be fine on 10sp even up to 36T cogs. You don't need long/medium cages, those are for roadies and XC whippets, make sure you roost them while they're fixing their mechs! Shimano say it doesn't run on 36t cogs, it does work fine. Get 1! Click NO if you're a roadie or XC whippet. 23 November 2012
Rated 3 out of 5 by Works well but not stong enough I moved to this mech from a medium cage XTR after switching to single ring setup, 1st ride out it took a knock, nothing too serious, the mounting bracket bent forcing the jockey arm into the spokes which ripped it in half. On previous knocks with the XTR mech the dropout hanger has taken the force and bends which can be easily repaired. As it happens another rider suffered the same problem on the same run with this mech, in my opnion they are simply not strong enough. When the clutch is activated the jockey arm remains stiff with no where to move, I can assume this played a part, even so there is no way the bracket on the mech should be weaker than the hanger on the frame. I'm awaiting a response from Shimano. 08 October 2012

Answer:
The Shimano Saint M820 Shadow+ Mech would be a Low Normal as standard, the only Top Normal version I know of is the 'Shimano XT M770 Rapid Rise Mech'

Answer:
This 10-speed mech is not compatible with a 9-speed drivetrain as a 10-speed system requires a narrow 10-speed chain which is only compatible with a 10-speed cassette.

Answer:
The Shimano Saint M820 has two different settings, one for "Downhill" and one for "Freeride" riding.
"Freeride" mode will work with 11-32/11-34/11-36 sprockets and "Downhill" mode will work with 11-23-11-25-11-28 sprockets.
To use a Freeride cassette ratio you need to engage the mode converter on the back of the mech which gives the mech a bit more leverage for the larger sprocket sizes.
